Road Signs

I still think that we should have a road sign idea. I came up with this idea about 3 and a half years ago, but nothing happened.

Basically, road signs have no real value. Lets just add a "Follow sign" option to the road sign where the character will automatically follow the road to the destination on the sign.

Example, you're in draynor village. Right-click the road sign that points to fally, select "Follow sign to Falador." Character starts moving, and the programming would be exactly as if you had clicked somewhere on the overview map, so it wouldn't be hard to program. Alternatively, they might have to program road paths into the game so that the character would follow the road instead of the shortest route from point a to point b.

Just like when clicking on the map, clicking anywhere in the game will abruptly stop the character from going to wherever clicked on in the map.

I haven't played for about 10 months, so tell me if they added something like this already.

The idea can be done, as you say, the only problem is routing.

A prime example: The Sims. You send your Simolean out to recycle the paper. SHOCK HORROR! The lady Simolean starts coming through the door at the same time. The kids soon follow. You're ended up with a massive gridlock, invariably resulting in loss of action and the need of all four to go to the toilet, where the blasted problem happens again :x

Um..anyway..the point I'm making is because of all the NPCs, other players' actions, opening and closing gates, auto attacking monsters, one's trip may be abruptly brought to an end only 5-6 squares from where you start. You come back after getting a drink to find your character has been logged off.

I really can't see Jagex bothering to implement it. No doubt they could, but because of all the potential problems it would seldom work as it was intended. A bit like an Alfa Romeo. There's a blissfull moment where everything works, however, you have to endure all the pain of stalling, transmission problems, engine failures etc etc.

There's just too many potential problems to bother with this car...I mean, this idea.

its true its kind of like teleportation. Thing is, i thought of it before teleportation was in RS. Just never bothered to post it.

But now that the world has been made so big, it would be nice to be able to just look away from the screen and not have to click every 5 steps. I disagree that other things would force you to stop. I mean, the follow command works, doesn't it? (At least it did 3 years ago, haven't bothered to use it since then.)

I'm just saying, it would be nice to have something to get our eyes off of the screen just for seconds, and to get rid of some of the redundant mindless clicking. And this could be applied to towns w/o teleportation. Draynor village, Rimmington, Edgeville, etc.

Not really, pal. Say, if you were running or were round the corner and someone follows you, more often then not they'll get stuck behind a wall. Go play and experience the horrors of it.

I do agree with your principle. I'd love not having to click like a drone.

But thats a different reason for it not working.

If the person you follow doesnt put any obstructions in the way then the system works perfectly.

So if you have a stationary target and a set path to go on, then this idea would work perfectly, and wouldnt cause any servers to crash (that dont already crash like server 44 that crashes ALL THE DAMN TIME :wall:
