How to Change Aspect Ratio?

Hawks

Recommended Posts

I'm running Windows 2000 Professional (updated as much as it's possible for a 2000)... And we got a new monitor for Christmas. The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 923NW (widescreen flatscreen LCD) and the prior monitor was the Micron one which came with the computer.

Is there a way to change the aspect ratio (that the comp outputs) so the text isn't blurred and stretched?

I don't think you can change the actual aspect ratio of your monitor, but you can change the resolution.

Right click on desktop > Properties > Select the "Settings" tab

From there you should only need to drag the Screen Resolution to More - giving you the maximum screen resolution your monitor supports.

I have that. It's set at 1280x1040. I want to change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 or whatever the widescreen monitors support.

Because the computer is sending the screen output at 4:3 and it's not displaying correctly because the monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:9 I think.

Compared to this:

The text was just a lot sharper, same with the icons...

I just looked up that monitor, and the resolution you want to set it as is 1440 x 900

This should automatically come up an option once you hook it up to your PC, like my Samsung 22" did - it gave me the option to change up to 1680x1050 (which is 16:10; but still widescreen respectively)

[hide=Your monitor Specs]* Screen Size: 19"

* Brightness: 300 cd/m2

* Contrast Ratio: 1000:1

Did the monitor come with any disk (which might have drivers on it) / And do you have the graphics card driver installed?

I don't know if it came with drivers, my dad (as far as I know) just plugged it in... So I'll ask him tonight.

My Settings tab is still registering the previous monitor as the current one. This is probably the problem; so due to that I don't have the 1440x900 option.

If I install the drivers, it'll register as the Samsung monitor, and I'll most likely be able to chang the resoultion. So I'll try that tonight.

Also, thank you! :D

EDIT: The driver's available from the Samsung website, so I'll get that downloaded and hoepfully it'll work.
