If you use this tip to rename a folder, you will not be able to rename the folder back using the right-click rename. Im not sure why this is. What youll have to do is open a command prompt and change directory into the containing folder (For instance, the desktop folder), and run this command:

 

 

 

ren Alt+255 NewFolderName

 

 

 

That's the instruction I don't understand, could someone do a step-by-step thing for me please? >_<

Have you tried clicking the icon then pressing F2?

 

It does the same as the right click re-name.

 

 

 

For the dos command you need to do the following;

 

 

 

Start -> Search

 

[type] cmd [hit enter]

[type] ren [space]

 

Now drag on drop the icon in question into the black window

 

[space]new name [type].lnk[hit enter]

 

Note if your using a space in the new name ie Internet Explorer you need to have speech marks around the name and the .lnk. eg "Internet Explorer.lnk"

I tried the F2 thing, doesn't work.

Set the directory to your desktop. You won't be able to rename it with just a file extension though. I think the trick is to though some odd character in there. I think the most logical way to do this is to jsut change them in registry.

My sister kept going "psh you'll never fix it".. but I have you!! And it worked, I just didn't know how to set the thing to directory.
