New Mage Armour: Rune Essence Plating

Featured Replies

Ok, first of all I'd just like to say that this idea probably isn't too well thought out (and sorry if it isn't), but I'm going to introduce it anyway.

Ok, basically as the title says, I'm suggesting a new armour called "Rune Essence Plating", this is obviously made up of Rune Essence, and as you all know, Rune Essence is a magical stone that conducts and stores magical energy.

Now, I was thinking Rune Essence could also be used to counter magical attacks, so that Rune Essence would act as a type of bulletproof vest, or sponge, if you will. It'll probably take 60 Magic and 60 Defense to wear it, and I'm going to guess that (full) Rune Essence armour would have around 200-250 Magic defense (which is pretty much a Mage's Dragon/Crystal Armour), very low melee and ranged defense (I'm guessing Rune Essence isn't very durable against physical attacks), negative melee and ranged attack (as I'm also guessing Rune Essence would be hard to manuever in), and some positive magic attack (assuming that perhaps magical energy can "flow" through the Rune Essence to your target), but I'm not really going to decide since this idea probably isn't going to go into action anyways.

To have the ability to obtain and wear this magical armour, you have to complete a quest series much like the Plague series, except you start with the Rune Mysteries quest. This armour can be obtained by bringing Rune Essence Bars (smelted Rune Essence) to a Mage-Smith in the Wizard's Tower along with an extra gold coin fee. This would probably cost 5k Rune Essence Bars (these are stackable) along with 300k for a full set.

Rune Essence Armour would have charges much like Crystal equipment, so upkeep will be costly, but worthwhile. The reason you need so much Rune Essence to charge and create it is because each Rune Essence can only carry a limited amount of energy, and all the Rune Essence needed to make the armour is extremely compact (plus if this armour becomes too common, mages would be very weak against meleers who have this).

As I said, this armour would have a charge/decay factor, just as Crystal equipment and Barrows equipment, and it also has penalties, very costly ones too. Rune Essence Armour would have 10 charges (and it degrades in stats as the charges go down), and can go into the negatives, if it goes into the negatives, the Rune Essence armour would have an "overload effect", it cannot contain and stabilize the magical powers within it, so it leaks, and eventually explodes when it reaches -10 (which will cause damage to you if you are wearing it or if it's in your inventory).

The speed at which it degrades from 0 through -10 is much greater than from 10 through 0, so speed will be a great advantage when recharging it. If you bring the Mage-Smith the degraded Rune Essence Armour, you only have to pay 3k Rune Essence+Coins, if you need new Rune Essence Armour, you have to bring 5k Rune Essence+Coins, and if you bring him Rune Essence Armour that has negative charges, you must pay 30k extra for each charge below 0, if it reaches -10, then it will explode and will cause 50 points of damage, and you lose the whole set of Rune Essence Armour altogether.

Umm, I think that's everything I've got to say about this. Anyways, I'm open to comments, questions, concerns, opinions, suggestions, and flames  .

*EDIT* Sorry if there's a bunch of grammar mistakes in my post, I've been getting pretty lazy lately  *END EDIT*

*twitch* Can you...erm...maybe space out your paragraph there, and include maybe some proper punctuations? I don't mean to sound inconsiderate, but your passage is very difficult to read (I CAN read it, but it's straining) and I feel your message would come accross clearer if you presented it in a more professional manner. :)

What he said :P

The idea doesn't sound too bad however I'm not sure about rune essence being used as a material for armor...can it even take damage of any kind?? :? Apart from my little quip about that it sounds good to me. :)

Erm, sorry, my apologies, it was pretty late at night when I posted it. It''ll be edited soon.

Sorry to be so technical, but aren't runes made of stone? Smelting stone/rock doesn't quite sound right to me. There isn't rune ore, after all, it just goes from essence to being charged. Reread that: *rune* ore. *Runite* ore, yes. *Rune* ore, no :)

Is this idea meant to "fix" the triangle? Just curious.

i thought the same thing, isnt rune armour made of the same thing as runes? i mean obviously they come in different forms, but posibly a new material could be used.

Hmm, the word "rune" is being used a lot :) I don't *think* rune armor/weapons have anything to do with magic runes. Runite is a metal, but rune essence is stone based, I assume. The same word is used, I guess. I'm surprised I never thought about this before.

It could be used to reinforce robes..

Small pieces of rune essence, carved into certain forms, like a brestplate and such, consisting of small pieces of rune essence, held together by rings of some metal, so its a bit flexible?

Something like a essence-chainmail principe..

Would make the robes heavy, but more magic bonus..

Sounds like a pretty nice idea to me..
