My first day in AfterEffects.... [movie]

Featured Replies

Today I started learning Adobe After Effects... something long overdue. We've just been busy at the studio and I haven't had time to sit down and sort it all out. Anyway, here is something I did in about 3hours in After Effects 5.

Now, I didn't compress this, so it's way too big and probably isn't worth watching. But I was proud of myself and hoped someone else would be too. Also worth mentioning is that my skills in compressing a quicktime are non-existent.

If anyones interested I can post in depth details as to what all went into this. If you are a Flash and Photoshop user, and have always hated how Flash makes pretty images ugly, you would love After Effects.

I was going to write a long post about the program and how I created this, but I won't until someone shows some interest.

It looks nice, the animation is smooth and such, but one thing realy bugs me.

the actual photo of the landscape. The clouds scrolling across the screen don't have any effect on the terrain, while as in real life of course, when the sun is out the terran will be brighter, ect. ect.

I'm fairly sure you knew about it, because I know if i was doing something for a first time, I wouldn't try and get all the details in, but yeah. :P

other than that, I liked it. It might be an interesting program to play with

Yeah, it was just something I didn't bother with. If we were really doing something like that we would use timelapse photography or something similar. I was just trying to throw in that much more motion to better learn the program. At first I was going to try and rotospline the trees and horizon but then I figured out an easier way to just composite a moving image of the clouds and mix it with a single still matte of the background... There is alot of photoshop work in this as well, it works great with After Effects. Thanks for looking. :)

Very nice, keiphus :) The clouds were a little distracting from the actual monitor, i'd have liked it if there was more focus on the product. You should definitely slow those clouds down a tad.

I like the movement on the monitor screen. It looks natural. The still picture of the waves goes against our expectations, maybe a bit too much.

It seems like a rather interesting program. Do you simply create those screen elements on the monitor then introduce them along a timeline?

And where is the photoshop work...other than getting the elements? Just curious.

Looking forward to more of them. But er...wow we have to find you a way to compress! (now to go clear out my temp files!)

Incidentally, does Apple not releae any quick time tools to compress things?

I would say my ignorance is the problem, not apple... For what I do here at the studio, I've never had a real need to compress anything...
