stupidity

Featured Replies

out of my own stupidity i clicked a link on the general discussion forum. it took me to a blank page with a connection failure message. i then read further down the post and people were saying "few i nearly clicked on it" etc. this post was removed sharpish, i presume by a mod. as i type this am running a virus check and i am not logging into rs till its done. so heres the question.

1) why was it removed? i presume it contained something malicious?

2) if it did contain anything bad can my computer obtain it just through the link?

3) any further way to scan computer or will avg suffice?

thanks

My computer had over 100 viruses once, on my old piece of junk.

I found that Kaspersky did the trick. (It's free) =]

thanks, im feeling really stupid now for clicking the link. its causing more hassle than it was worth. but is it possible to get say a key logger or a virus just from a link to a failed page?

Yeah I'd definitely run a simply virus scan... honestly though I doubt you could get anything just by clicking the link. As long as something didn't start downloading you should be pretty good.

Take safe measures though :P

thanks, nothing has turned up on the scan yet, but it is still checking my temporary internet files.

Unless you entered your password, downloaded something, or ran it on an unpatched machine, visiting a website CANNOT give you a virus\keylogger.

Dont feel stupid, ive done it before and i can assure you loads of other people have done it too. A simple virus scan may do the trick but to be 100% surfe run a scan twice.

You said that the page was blank.

But have you gotten any info on it from the MOD who removed it?

Did the link perhaps, have an image in it?
