I'm level 85 mining and usually powermine iron for quick xp. But whenever another person comes up and mines the ore the same exact time as I do, that player always gets it. And the part that I don't understand is that he's only level 58 in mining. A level 58 vs. a level 85 miner. Why does this happen?

I personalty think that the higher your mining level, the worse you get. That's what it seems like. :x

In your case it is a connection issue.

Once you ge tlike 50+ mine, everyone mines iron in 1 hit. Collection issue. Just hop worlds

The person who hits first, even if its a millisecond faster, has an increased chance at the rock.

Okay, thanks. I thought that the higher mining level should get it, but I guess that the level doesn't really matter.
