Possibly a virus?

Hi, never used this board before, but here goes.

A while back, my computer acquired this program, apparently called Norton Security Scan. I wasn't overly surprised when I first saw it, thinking it was a regular Virus program.

However, the program has recently started to pop up, and wants to install something new (can't remember what, will take a picture when I can). I tried deleting it from the system, but it wanted accesto my compute , so I'm unsure of what to do.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Despite it being a big name product which you'll see a lot in the shops, Norton is actually one of the worst antivirus programs out there at the moment. I'd suggest you remove this as soon as possible, I doubt it'll offer you much good protection (I'm assuming you've got protection other than this) and will probably sit there hogging up computer resources like all other Norton products. It should uninstall fine, though you may want to get the brute force removal tool off the norton website. If that fails, then I remember someone here had another tool for removing Norton.

Windows uninstall panel doesn't do the trick? It should. My moms computer had Norton once, and it was just to uninstall it. Otherwise try CCleaner. Uninstall all components from Norton.

Pick up Avira (free) and combine with either windows firewall, comodo or zonealarm. Mix it all with ad-aware or spybot:search&destroy and you are good to go.

Btw, Norton 09, as far as i can remember, scored very good in latest tests at av-comparatives.

No, The uninstall panel couldnt get it off, without it asking for acces to my computer. I have CCleaner, running a test as I'm writing this.

Thanks ::'

Norton Security Scan is an evil piece of software. Basically, you can uninstall it, but it always has an install file that isn't affected by the uninstall, so next time you boot up, it thinks, 'hmm, Norton Security Scan isn't installed, I better do that now'. And it's back again. Use the tools that Dracion1 linked to, I used the norton removal tool and some other stuff to get rid of mine. It's harder than it seems but keep trying.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried removing Norton by using that site, but it asks me which typ of Norton it is, which I'm not sure of.

Should I just guess, or do you guys have any suggestions?
