What should I do with my obby pure?

Featured Replies

Hi I am training up my obby pure and atm he is 49 str (training to 60 on rock crabs)

When I hit 60 str I should have around 48 hp so my combat would be 32

I see quite a few obby pures with range but I dunno whether it is worth the combat levels.

With 60 str 60 range 48 hp (would stay 48hp cause i'll get it up with soul wars probably) i would be 41 combat. If i get my atk to 20 I wont gain any combat levels and I will be able to get climbing boots from the quest

With 73 str 1 range 63 hp i would be 41 combat

Help me decide :S

normally they get there range up to th elevel before they get a combat form ranged, fight with ranged coz its fast, then msb spec then switch obby maul hit

to pvp i would say you need range, as most obby mauls att with darts etc first then hit with the maul, it would b too hard to kill using the maul alone,

Ok thanks for the advice everyone

I'll get my range to 50 cause that's what I need to use a magic bow. Or maybe just 40 for now and use steel knifes or sumin?

Should I get 1-40/50 in soul wars?

And I just hit 53 strength :P

Just keep your range and strength at the same level. Soulwars is terrible xp.

Yeah I will do that. I had no idea whether or not soul wars was any good but I gave the question a shot ^^ I actually quite like training range the "normal" way anyway. Rock crabs are good yeah? Iron Knives?

I would actually recommend not getting range. I had an obby mauler for a while (now converting him to a ddser), and I was very glad that I didn't get ranged, simply because people safe like crazy against knives. When you're getting hit by constant 5/6's, and you know that they can hit 20+ at any time, you're gonna safe. But, if you see someone attacking you with a dagger, you're thinking that you can easily eat before they can ko you.

I got 5 attack and used a steel dagger (p++). Damage from the dagger + poison + recoil + maul hit = death. Also, when ranging with knives you get destroyed by recoils. I loved to fight against range maulers because it was so easy tbh. While they were hitting me constantly, I'd just eat, hit them every now and then with dagger and while poison/recoil would get their hp down without them really noticing it, I'd whip out maul and ko. Easy as pie.

Also I would strongly recommend getting 5 attack. I started with 1 attack and then a friend convinced me to get 5, and it is a world of difference. I felt like I was hitting way way more than maulers with 1 attack, and I would probably be hitting the same as them at the same combat level.

Honestly, if you poison your opponent and have plenty of recoils you will get many many ko's. The key is to get them with small amounts of damage so that they don't really notice it as much. Good luck :D

Thanks for the good advice! That sounds like a really good idea =] So you just stab em with the dagger for a while till they're like 40% hp then whip out the maul?

And I just hit 56 strength :]

Oh and what gear should I wear while pking?

Full iron is fine, with zerker necklace and a COMBAT BRACELET. The combat bracelet can increase your max hit by 1 alone. Either an iron dagger (p++) or a steel dagger (p++) if you plan on getting 5 attack, and the maul (tzhaar-ket-om) obviously :). Also if your having a hard time finding a dagger (p++), just buy the dagger and then a weapon poison (p++) and use the two together. Theres no herblore requirement or anything.

For your inventory, definitely use monkfish or above food, and have a super str pot, super att pot (if you have 5 att, if not it won't make a difference) and a super anti-poison, which is very very helpful, since many of your opponents will be poisoning you, and as you will find out, poison can lead to an easy ko. And of course a teletab (lumby is probably your best bet since its a non-pvp zone).

Also with pking, the one thing you'll encounter that is really annoying is people with anti poisons -.-. It makes it a lot harder to ko, but its still pretty easy with recoils + dagger. Most of the time against people without anti-poisons, (especially against pure rangers with knives because of crazy recoil damage) I would just use the dagger until they're poisoned and then maul away. A lot of times you'll get lucky with a couple damage from recoil, a 25 hit, and a 6 from poison all at the same time.

Good luck with your pking, and don't get discouraged ;) It took me about 2-3 deaths to get the hang of obby maul pking, but once you get good at it, you'll be getting tons of kills. Obby maulers really are ridiculous, although expensive and time-consuming :(. And hopefully you have a good way to make money back, because when you die you lose a lot :?

EDIT: I was reading through the rest of the replies, and if you DO get range, don't use a msb! It's totally useless for obby maulers. You pretty much need to use rune knives (poisoned ftw) to effectively range maul. (just watch out for recoil damage :P ) And soul wars would be a bad option to train because you don't get hp xp. Part of obby maulers is that they have insanely high hp for their combat levels, and if you're going to train range you might as well get all the hp you can.
