Temple of Ikov

Recommended Posts

In Temple of Ikov the guide suggests getting 25-50 ice arrows to defeat Lesarkus the Fire Warrior. It took me well over 20 mins, probably 30, to collect 26 ice arrows. Imagine my surprise, then, when I needed only three of them. How come? Because Ava's Accumulator works on ice arrows. I suggest adding a sentence to the guide pointing out that if you're wearing Ava's Accumulator you only need to collect 10.

This is a very good point. I remember doing this quest and it took me around 20-30minutes just to get enough ice arrows for that Fire Warrior. I don't think I realised that you can use Ava's Accumulator to pick the arrows back up. I also recommend that a sentence about this is added to the guide for the future when other people try and do the quest, this will save a lot of time for people.

I think changing it might be a bad idea, for really only one reason. Having enough arrows is the whole point. Not everyone is going to use an accumulator or have access to it. Not only that, but the effect that the accumulator has on arrows is random. A player could end up being the one person to have most of their 10 arrows unreturned.

30 minutes? I think I gathered near 50 arrows in that time (and that could be MY luck), so having people gather enough is really the whole point.

I think of it like a speed limit. If they say just gather 15, someone will try it with less. Same as with the current "speed limit" of arrows...people will try it with less, but try it with not enough and you're in trouble!

I understand your point, but argue that judging variation is part of using AA anyway. I collected 26 arrows, shot the guy 10-15 times, and had 23 arrows left. The unnecessary 23 arrows represents 20 minutes of my life I won't see again. And given that I only used 3 arrows, suggesting 10 is still a very conservative figure.

I think players are better off knowing their options: the guide could just say AA works for ice arrows without even suggesting a number to take, or 'so you might like to take fewer than if you didn't have AA', or similar.

Personally I think it was a good idea but that's my honest opinion.

Thanks for the support, Lood. I think it's simple and would help many players cut twenty minutes off the time spent.

Why not compromise on that and simply expand the range to start at a lower number? That would help all players...

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you suggest wording which would do this?

10-50 ice arrows, depending on ranging level and whether the player has an accumulator

Yep, simple and straightforward and doesn't take up too much space. Thanks, SportsGuy.

I would say that it would be useful to put in a sentence "The number of arrrows you will need depends on your ranged level and whether or not you brought ranged armour. For example when you are ranged 70+, you will only need 10-15 arrows. Also, when you're using Ava's Accumulator you might also need less arrows, but it is always better to take more than you need, rather than less"

To be one the safe side, that is, since the effect Ava's Accumulator has is not 100% sure, and it'd be quite frustrating for people if they have not brought enough.

From reading a lot of the guides, I would say that putting in a range level in that sentence wouldn't be best.

To modify your sentence (and make it shorter):

"The number of ice arrows you will need depends on your ranged level and whether you are wearing Ava's accumulator. Players may need as few as 10 or as many as 50 ice arrows to finish off the monster."

I'm not very familiar with the approach the guides take, but that would be fine to me.

Alternatively, and perhaps even simpler, I'd be happy to leave it to the players own judgement with AA, sticking with the current wording and just adding "Ava's Accumulator works with ice arrows, so if you're using it you won't need to collect as many".
