June 1, 200917 yr I seem to of hit something I can't get my head around. PSUs... I'm planning on getting this case: http://www.dabs.com/products/coolermast ... 4070000-12 Based on some reviews and recommendations and my budget, but it doesn't come with a psu and I come completely undone on trying to figure them out. So can anyone help point me in the direction of what I need to look for connection wise etc on psus? I'd find: http://www.dabs.com/products/xilence-xp ... -55PH.html http://www.dabs.com/products/ocz-techno ... -4ZWQ.html http://www.dabs.com/products/corsair-me ... -4N14.html But I have no idea if they would even go with the case and what other factors I need to relate to a psu. June 1, 200917 yr Well, i'd buy the Corsair. What's the specs on the computer (mobo in particular)? June 1, 200917 yr Author I got outside help but thanks for the input. I'm going with gigabyte mobo that can go up to 16gb ram, but only putting 4gb ram in. Akways good to have the upgrade capacity sitting there! Worked out a case tht takes 5 fans (2 with it 3 empty slots) Going for intel core 2 quad processor. It's a setup that will work for me, pretty decent specs with low(ish) costs plus the barebones of it is comptatible with my existing dvd drive, harddrive and graphics cards whihc gives me the wiggle room to step up my specs while I save for the better graphics, disc drive etc. Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue
June 1, 200917 yr Aight! Was just wondering if you were gonna use some old components or new ones, since i think atleast the OCZ one you linked has 20+4 connector, but only 4pin cpu connector (might remember wrong), depending on mobo.. some has 4 or 8pin cpu connector and 20 or 24pin atx connector. Well good luck and have fun with it. June 2, 200917 yr I word of advice save up then buy it all in one go. Every week/month items increase and others decrease (the exchange rate has been screwing up a lot of items) if you buy something now, something next month then the rest a month later the items you first brought will be cheaper when you buy the last lot. Anyway I'd get this http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/450W-Cor ... r-Warranty Modular and pretty much the same as the other, only as its modular its a lot easier to work with. PS look at scan.co.uk and ebuyer.com as opposed to dabs.com as they always seem more expensive. June 2, 200917 yr Author I am mainly trying to block buy the bares bones of it. Thing such as new graphics, hardrive, monitor, fan controllers etc that are not vital to the upgrade I plan to buy as and when however. Also since I'm here I know you can get UPS systems for desktops now, specifically ones with utilities that safely shut your system down when they get low on battery and the power is still out. I also know for optimisation and to get the best out of harddrives in particular there are settings that are not recommended for use without a back up power supply. So is a ups worth getting as an extra "accessory" to keep the system in top performance? Especially considering my area we tend to get thunder and power cuts overnight and I tend to leave the desktop overnighting things and thus can't shut it down if a pwoer outtage is likely. June 2, 200917 yr Oo, go with the HX that Joe posted! 57£ for the 450HX is damn cheap. Hm, if you live in an area with power outages and thunder i would invest in a ups. I have an APC 350 CS, it works fine, costed about 80.
