@abc: They're takin our jerbs internet freedom of speech/sharing of information/pretty much the internet in general.

As I understand it they are trying to stop internet piracy, but pretty much the only way they can do that is by watching everything you do on the internet. So all of your CP, they'd know about it.

So like is it just going to make some websites illegal to visit or something?

I'm not a techy so I won't claim to perfectly understand it but what I'm reading here makes me believe that they are going to have internet service providers put "filters" on your internet at a network level and even turn off your internet if you break the "rules" a couple times. Now I'm guilty of downloading stuff ilelgally off the internet, but it is breaking the law so it probably should be cleaned up, idk how to do it but this isn't the way they should. At first I was kinda like, ok so people are just whining because their free music is going away, but I think this actually has potential to step on our right to privacy. Also since apparently it is a treaty, (as i recall the Supreme Court has to approve treaties?) but as i understand it after it is passed there is almost nothing courts can do to overturn it.

 

As an analogy, a government is trying to stop poachers, so they mandate that every hunting group has to have an "anti-poaching" guy with them, who checks everything the get. But instead of animals and hunting groups, its your internet and your family that they are checking on.

 

Also like i said I'm not a big techie, but if someone hacked into this filter system somehow or whatnot, if it does watch everything you do, could they not in theory get oodles of people's personal info? Bank PINS? Credit Card numbers?

As people have said, they're essentially turning your computer into an interactive TV.
