I played for about 6 hours today and didn't find any diamond. Granted, I only spent about 45 minutes of that time actually looking for diamond

I did. I didn't find any lava, either. My spawn point is pretty close to a giant lava pool, though

You have above-ground lava but can't find a few diamonds? I declare hax.

I'm playing on peaceful. I don't know if that matters. I was definitely able to find diamonds on peaceful in alpha

I have 4 above ground lava pools on my world, 2 right next to my spawn.

Peaceful doesn't affect Diamonds. One of the few resources I have more than my brother of.
