So, apparently I have bought Half Life 2. I don't ever remember doing so, nor getting it as a gift from my brother. That's weird.

You probably got the Orange Box that includes the Half Life 2 series, TF2, and Portal.

I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure I bought Portal myself. And by bought I mean downloaded it when it was free.

its probably a virus delete your hard drive and download some more RAM
