Erichermit Posted June 17, 2009 Share Posted June 17, 2009 I'm interested in playing a Star Ocean game and Star Ocean 3 looks better than Star Ocean 2. Is it important to play 2 before 3, or are they all stand alone? Because if not I'll play 2 before 3 easily, unless 2 really sucks (which I doubt it does.) Sorry if this post is a little small but I guess I don't have a lot to articulate here. simplified, if I go buy one Star Ocean game right now, should I buy Till the End of Time (3) or The Second Story (2)? The Real ET Posted June 18, 2009 Share Posted June 18, 2009 All are set in the same universe, but all are pretty seperate (except 1 and 2 maybe?). I know 2, 3 and 4 are all stand alone. I also know I hate 3 with all my soul. The combat was so much fun and I loved that, but the intelligence-insulting dialogue and what-seemed-to-be-good-but-turned-into-a-terrible storyline ruined the game for me. The only reason I finished it was because I like to finish what I start and I was REALLY, REALLY hoping for a redeeming ending... I was SORELY disappointed to say the least. But combat was fun. =P Edit: Opps, got into a 3 rant and forgot to tell you that I heard 2 was really good. I'd go for that one unless all you want is fun combat. Albel Posted June 19, 2009 Share Posted June 19, 2009 The only ones Ive played is "Till the of time" (Which is 3 i think?) and "The last hope" (Which is 4 i think?) From what friends have told me, you really dont need to play the first one, to get the second one. They are all set in the same universe. Actually, the 4th one "the last Hope" goes back in time, and deals with how the entire star ocean series got started.
