Training smithing to 69

Featured Replies

My smithing is now 60 and I intend to level it up to 69 for the Rocking Out quest.

Now, I have selected two ways of doing this :

1 making cannon balls

1.1 buy 17k coal & 9k iron, smelt & make cannonballs - cost ~ 4.1m, product ~ 6.5m, profit ~ 2.4m

For this method I'll be able to get some profit as well as the smithing level required. However, no other exp gain.

1.2 mine coal & iron by myself, smelt & make cannonballs - profit ~ 6.5m

For this method I'll get my mining to somewhere at 78, along with large profit.

2. smelting gold bars

2.1 buy 6.7k gold ores and smelt them, then craft the bars and sell - cost ~ 3.2m, product ~ 1.9m, loss ~ 1.3m

For this method I'll get my crafting to 66, another requirement for the Rocking Out quest, but lose a sum of money.

2.2 mine 6.7k gold ores and smelt them, then craft the bars and sell - profit ~ 1.9m

For this method I'll get my crafting to 66, mining to 73, and also a small profit.

So what do you think? Which method is the best? And why?

Never a serious money maker lol.

Currently a Sabre Initiate =]

Well since you also need a crafting requirement my vote goes to gold bars... you could also make some cannonballs first to compensate for the loss.

Current goals:

Hunter 78/80

Smithing 70/80

Runecrafting 58/60

Strength 96/99

Defense 45/46

Prayer 72/95

Dungeoneering 85/100

Buy gold

smelt with g/s gauntlets

craft the bars

sell

1st off SC hammers really cut the costs in terms of amount of items needed to smith. They are well worth the time getting them. My suggestion is this, set up manage thy kingdom for max coal then use that coal at blast furnace to make mith bolts. I used it and it worked. While you are at it, you might try to work towards 71 smithing since you can pot to the skill requirement for varrock 3 diary.

According to your sig, you have 77 ranged. That's enough to kill aviansies at god wars dungeon. Sell or alch the drops (depending on the dropped item), buy gold and smelt them into bars, having the goldsmithing gauntlets equipped.

Either mithril bolts or Gold bars are best I believe.

I would take the loss with gold though, it will save you alot of time and you can always make the money back.
