Since they are so heavily referenced I don't really see any substance in them. You have basically been able to copy the "linework" but your images lack depth alltogether.

Im sorry :(

Col, I really don't see why you're against references, it's a fine way to start off as a beginner. It helps us understand how light and shadows affect a certain object, and can also be of huge help when starting at a certain type of anatomy, or for learning how perspective & foreshortening works.

Many professionals will even use references from time to time.

They aren't bad sketches, but the proportions and "linework" need improvement . The sketches themselves do not much resemble the references (same idea, but different positions, angles etc...). You've put in some nice detail though, which is always good. The shading has gotten a lot better, but it's unfortunately not too realistic, you should try to draw your shading more like the shading in your references.

PS: Hehe, I used the same zombie pic as a reference for one of my last few sketches :P

I really can't be against referencing when I do it in such vast propotions. :D

Though I fear that in this case you have over concentrated on getting the lines right. The shading should definately be the given more attention. That's all.

anyway, they look good but as it has been said, the proportions need to be improved on, and it needs a bit more depth i think. i liked your other scetch b4 rather then these 2. but keep practicing, you'll get better over time

(Refrence from earlier in this postte: Good Job so far ya know maite, just thought id say that for now, kai?)

I recon the ogre looks too much like a bhuda but nice pic anyway, I really like that zombie and maybe that 'tilted head' gives it more of a freaky look to add to the zombie thing..
