  1. Thanks guys, by all means let us know if this belongs elsewhere :S . Ill check out Student Room, she didn't anticipate how tricky it could be finding people willing to take a questionnaire, just doing what I can to spread the word.
  2. Hi guys, my girlfriends struggling to find enough people to take part in her questionnaire for University. She's studying user behaviours with dietary supplements, which includes anything that can be taken to replace a normal intake of food, diet-bars, protein shakes, vitimin tablets etc. Would really appreciate if anyone could have a stab at filling this out, would really mean a lot. Spent the night converting the questionnaire into an easy to fill out site on survs.com, average completion time is 4 minutes so it's not such of a time killer. Link. https://www.survs.com/survey/YJNCD7D6TV And if not would anyone know a good place to find candidates online? Cheers guys, Terley (On another note) If anyone remembers me, just a life update, recently landed myself a new Job as an Animator for a big E-Learning company in Liverpool UK. Plan on updated everyone on what ive been up to the last few years on the Gallery soon :).

    Herp de derp.

    lovely use of texturing :)
  4. Let me know whatcha think :) A short animation about an old man called Charlie who's struggling to cope after the death of his wife, deteriorating more and more each day Charlie seeks a way to turn back the clock and be with his love once again. A bit of teary one guys don't expect any slapstick :-? Recently lost my Grandmother Monday 13th Sept, my Grandad's taking it really hard so this story just real for me.
  5. interesting, nice use of colours. -ter
  6. thx bam nice hearing from you again :) I tried to make it un-nerving more than anything, it's not everyday you see a clown in such a smart suit.
  7. I think they look nice, just don't have anything constructive to say. This type of digital art isn't my strong point because it relies on program techniques and such. But yeh looks good, maybe not so clear what's going on with your latest one but interesting all the same.
  8. I actually did a 1 minute music video all in pixel art for my 1st year final project, looking back it's not that bad.. Parts are still un-animated, well in animatic state (a step after initial story board put into the timeframe) and there's a lot of faults but when I get around to finishing it i'd totally consider maybe showin you guys  . used arne's palette in my animation. (a pixel artist on wayofthepixel) another great palette if anyone wants to have a do. (edit) ah screw it, here's a screen-shot of a frame. Individual pixel art in this isn't too great sticking to a short deadline and all, but its the animation that counts. http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/6626/screeniebj7.png
  9. well im in university atm studying animation so a lot of what I do these days is within a learning curve towards becoming an animator, getting to grips with motion and character designs, also written a lot of scripts. So any illustration has been simple concept work as of yet, in all honesty im still learning so im not 100% happy with what i've produced so far, don't really want to post my animation experiments to the public because it's raw and mostly unfinished work but Im certainly not going anywhere guys. Just rather keep myself outta my comfort zone for now. : thx for the nice comments.
  10. yeah where have all the pixelers gone? I started pixelling here years ago and since it's almost totally detiorated :( bad times.
  11. Everyone's gotta start somewhere, some comments here have been a bit harsh, he did ask for people to go easy. If someones not totally got to grips with palette control yet comments about bad colours are just going to be lost without full backed up explainations to help show him how.A fixed set of colours is great to start you off creating pixel art I think, it's suprising what you can acomplish. I've seen some pieces where people have just gone overboard may have created something though you could say it's quite pretty, have wasted so much unnecissery colours. Yeah it may be a bit saturated but great job for a first time pixel art piece, you've done exactly what you set out to acomplish, any improvements from now would possibly be on the typefacing, letters could be constructed much clearer than this if you worked at it. More than this would involve more intricate techniques to be applied and a more advanced use of a palette. But overall welldone :
  12. For PJ weekly challenge, had to stick to C64 palette so this was mostly about trying to get what I could out of the colours provided. The topic was clowns so I thought it'd be quite funky to come up with a new character that wouldn't be mistaken for the Joker. There's something just kinda creepy about a clown in a smart suit, plus the idea is him knocking on your door, Im thinking he's like turned up for a kids party or something. Here's the palette if anyone wants to have a go. Any comments or crits welcome, like 16 hours left till deadlines over so if there's anything i've not spotted thats a major or minor problem please let me know : . Oh and could do with your votes after today :P I've never won before. Just take a visit to pixeljoint. thx.
  13. For mine I just turned up with a sketchbook and charcoal and spent the time experimenting, having fun drawing objects around the class with interesting lighting introduced. Had enough time to do some painting too, think I painted a dragon at some point with some existing animals as reference. My advice would be to not to spend all your time thinking of 'perfect idea', leave your piece room to evolve, preparation-wise make a collection of things of interest maybe, textures, styles, whatever will make you more comfortable when it comes to painting. When it comes to paint; think of what you want your piece to say, colour reflects mood so good use of this could go well towards your marks. More than anything, just have fun with it, I remember seeing people at my exam so prepared with exactly what they wanted that when it came to it they just became so precious with their work and restricted, they looked like they were at work rather than something they liked to do. It's hard to put down exactly what you picture in your head, so leave your ideas room to become something more.
  14. Pretty good so far, I do think there is a lot that can be improved on with the dragon, try think of it's whole structure even behind the wings. Also it's neck seems twisted to the right uncomfortably. With the guy you seem to be doing alright, only crits atm i'd say is that he doesn't seem grounded enough. Feet maybe too small. Well just a quick adjustment to show what I mean, hope it helps.
  15. crazy idea.. is that digimon and pokemon mixed? :o or just 2 pokemon? anyway its pretty cool :)
  16. not bad :), im guessing u got quite a big jaw? :D ~ter
  17. Thanks guys, very useful. Im sure there would be some advice department of some sort and im sure Im apart of a work union that could help me in the right direction. Bit of an update, back to work today 9am-6pm on another department. Been allowed to work somewhere that lets me sit at a till for now, most hastle i've had were some hints that im being 'lazy', but not really a problem. Definately better suited : lol on a late lunch break. Gonna try seek professional advice but stick here until I know what action to take. thx again.
  18. Apparently there's no cctv in that department -.- yeh i asked, even challenged the question, what would of happened if a customer had fallen? With no response. I've named members of staff who I know saw it happen to the personel manager who deals with these things (he's been on holiday the last 4 weeks and said if he was in at the time of the incident he would of been notified), but still doesn't help as concrete evidence for a claim as far as I know anyway :(
  19. Well im well enough to sit on a till to serve customers atm, but I recon it's something that'll effect me for a long time, Im still on crutches but maybe it'll improve some day im not sure. I've walked in bits but can't really stand or walk for too long without havin to sit down again :?
  20. Just figured I'd give a shot at possible solutions from you guys, from past discussions a lot of people have been pretty helpful on this forum. Thanks to anyone who can give any help with this. I work at a cafe part-time (it's a cafe within a supermarket), kind of a stepdown from my previous job as a store supervisor elsewhere. But being young and it bein really convinient for gettin to family and university it definately seemed worth it and the staff are pretty enthusiastic and friendly so no quarms about it. I tend to cook food, serve customers, waiter, clean, anything you'd imagine is done in a cafe, which im pretty experienced with considering i've worked in kitchens before and im used to dealing with the public. It's pretty busy too so breaks are short and delt with swiftly so you're constantly on your feet usually and some days i've gone without any breaks. So far i've worked here for about 7 months and work usually 3-4 days each about 6 hours. Well to the point of this topic, about a month ago I was serving customers for the day (basically just taking orders on a till that prints out in the kitchen to let staff know the order and table number) and needed to go fetch somethin from the back that needed stocking up on the front display. On my way thru the kitchen i slipped up on a patch of water and smacked my knee into the tiled floor, I heard a crunch. I stumbled back up and got straight onto cleaning up the puddle up so no one else would slip, letting who was in charge know i'd slipped too, as if wasn't obvious since a lot of people saw and laughed (would of looked hilarious, and tbh I just tried to laugh it off too), just tried to get back to work since there was only an hour left anyway. Within minutes I really started to get worried about my knee as I could barely put any pressure on it which was unusual since I figured I had just knocked it and that it was probably just bruised, eventually tunnel vision hit me and I had to get some fresh air. Spent about half an hour sat outside in agony and ended up comin to the conclusion im gonna have to go to the hospital. Took the next day off work and had to get my brother to help me to the hospital, helping me in the car and onto the emergency department. The only answer I got was there's no muscular damage, no x-ray offered just an assumtion that some pain killers and time off work would be enough, wrote me off work for a week and sent me on my way advising to possibly see a specialised GP if I still had any worries. A week went by and my knee had got worse, wasn't as painful but I was now more than ever suffering from uncontrollable spasms down my right leg like an electric jolt, like an uncomfortable hiccup that wouldnt quit. Keeping me up most nights, making walking impossible without crutches. I was more worried because as a child i'd had an operation on the same knee after accidently kneeling on a sowing needle. (I know, ouch). But since then I've not had any problems or pain, still ran, played football, swam etc. Honestly no problems or discomfort. After seeing a GP this time, she told me it looks pretty serious but said there's little that can be done, gave me a further 3 weeks off work and subscribed medicine to help. This is a lot of time off work, and I really need the money, so my brother convinced me to get in touch with an accident helpline. Which just resulted in an empty claim since I found out the management hadn't bothered to make any record of what had happened, even though I did let them know. Now I've just recieved my pay check for the month and they've paid me a laughable 90 pounds for the month on 'average' sick pay, usally I get about 600+ for the hours I work. So trying to get in touch with someone to talk to about this has found to be a mountain of a task, still got no where and the attitude is 'tough luck'. Im still barely able to walk but am forced to return back to work on another department to help me, but minutes into my first shift back with low moral, generally feeling crap and insecure trying my best to be optimistic I got called into the managers office. I was greeted by the store manager (head poncho) and apparently a customer had written a formal complaint about me from something that happened over a month ago and he wanted to take it up personally. It was about how I apparently had dismissed an elderly woman for her needs for an available seat (when most likely the cafe was full), leaving her feeling victimised and in tears. Which tbh didn't happen, because I know I wasn't operating that till atall on that week and when I do I know I am kind and do my best to do what I can to help, when I can't I ask for assistance and apologise. I have no doubts in how I am with customers. Well my name had been plucked up for whatever reason, and this womans sorrow was pinned down as my fault. Personally I feel they're picking on an easy target. Well I acknowledged that he had to take up a complaint and was sorry if there was atall a possibility that I had ever been short with a customer but denied that incident ever happening, to cut a long story short he came across as very assertive and intimidating, not believing me for a second and towards the end became very aggresive with me. To the extent I felt threatened enough to just go straight home after that. After putting a complaint through the next day I found out they had pinned it on the wrong person, with no apology asked me to return back to work over phone. Well my question is, what the hell do I do? surely they are breaking the law in some way here. You would expect some support to someone with a disability caused by a work related injury, yet all I got was a 'tough luck', next to no pay for it and a 'not so' welcome back to work from the head manager (which is a big thing considering it's a big company and he has the power to just fire me on the spot). All in all I just want to tell them to screw their job and go elsewhere for being treated so badly but I can't help but think there's something I can do. I mean, if i've got no claim because they haven't filled out any record of it happenin, surely they are in the wrong with that. Or again is it just tough luck? Im just clueless on where to start with this, ive got limited family support and everyone I know just says I deserve compensation, but after trying I know I can't prove this incident ever happened.
  21. i like it pretty good yeh. Interesting contrast between sprite and abstract backdrop.
  22. yaff thats just boosting the colour count too unnessicarily, it defys the purpose of pixel art. If you want to do that that why not try digital painting? If its pixel art you're interested in look into ways of making the most of your palette, I know these are words that are thrown around alot but using AAing and dithering are both great ways to give the illusion of more colours when trying to work to a restriction.
  23. sad to hear you've got problems with your eyesight, just make sure you go to specsavers. :-$
  24. oh theres nothing wrong with over-exagerating, in fact it probably easier for you considering it's not meant to look realistic you should feel free to just experiment and see what works. It's all about whats more Aesthetically pleasing but some knowledge of human anatomy always makes it an easier process.
  25. What program are you using exactly? have you tried looking for tutorials or anything? It's gonna be kinda hard pointing you in the right direction when it comes to learning how to use a program, its something you either pick up through trial and error or with someone over your shoulder showing you in person..
