To Whom It May Concern,

My question today is in regards to a Private Messaging System to be made available for Delayed Player to Player Contact, while separate but much like the one made for Jagex to contact Players.

I ask this due to the fact that I have many friends whom I have come to know through the game who play on totally different timezones to myself. It would be great for me personally (and I assume the wider community) to have this available to just generally communicate with their friends when they are not logged on. The amount of times it would have been handy to let my friends know I would not be available for the planned KBD trip or the rounds at Castle Wars due to commitments in real life that appeared and to let them know I have not stood them up or to reschedule a few hours later.

Obviously, this system could be a very good thing, although I do see how it could be abused. I think it would be fair however for the system to have certain protection procedures inplace. The first and most important is that this new system is separate to the one in which Jagex uses to contact players. This is so important as a warning could be shown to say that any messages received asking for password confirmation is a scam and that Jagex will only ever contact a player through the Jagex to Player system. Another measure should include that the messages posted should reflect the current in-game rules already inplace by Jagex. Another measure should include the current filter that is in place should be adopted to this system (if possible). Lastly it could be open to inspection by Jagex Mods so that if any wrong doing happens, possible Bans or Mutes should be made enforceable with a warning made that whatever is sent via the new Private Message system can possibly be seen and read by Jagex and actions can ensue. (The last point is raised so that players know that it is not for private or confidential conversations. This is obviously very hard to maintain and upkeep due to expenses of man-power to be looking and inspecting possible threats or scams. If its possible, certain words or phrases could flag the Private message to the attention of Jagex mods).

I ask this in the name of player safety as well. As Jagex would be well aware there are third party programmes that can be used by players already for this kind of contact. However, whenever a player is diverted from the main Runescape/Jagex page, they are susceptible to an un-protected mine field. If such a system was created, I can see need for these third party systems to decline as more and more players use the available system in place. I know it is a major concern on Jagex to keep their players safe and this could be the solution as there would now be no need to divert from the website to make contact with other players.

While it would be fine to have the system made only on the Runescape Website, a possible suggestion would be to have a little icon in the top right hand corner where the Mini-Map icon is located or in the spanner icon that indicates settings. When no unread mail is in the players inbox, the icon could show a piece of mail on an un-lit background. When there is un-read mail available the same icons background could instead glow gold and a number next to it with how many pieces you have, much like when you have selected to run. Whether or not players could access this mail during game play or whether they have to log off to view is up to the discretion of Jagex.

If further protection measures are needed, to keep it secure at first, it could be made available only to those whom can use the forums (Members and High Level Free-to-Play). However, this would disadvantage the majority of free to play players.

In no way am I suggesting the current ways of contact through the game should change, I am purely suggesting an additional way for players to contact one another while remaining safe.

Thank you all for reading and I hope you all agree. Please if any changes or improvements can be seen, please post. I will add your contributions if requested.

Happy Scapin

yes, i know i can do this but wouldnt it be handy to have a messaging system that is on the actual site itself?

i know some people who only use msn, or only use aim and some only use tif. For me personally, just to have one central system to use would be great.

I know some people will not care if this is implemented so those people can just ignore this thread.
