Alternatively you can just right click on the layer with text. select blending options and simply add an outer glow. much more customisable than using gaussian blur

You could, but i find this way more effective, for instant if you want to make the glow flash, its easier to do it this way

you can also do this with the blending options. Simply have one layer with the glow and one without. By using the blending options you can accuratly increase or decrease many aspects of the glow including the colour
