Desperately in need of account advice

Featured Replies

I haven't played for years, and due to complete boredom lately, I decided to play Runescape again. One of the big selling points of Runescape is that you can jump right in. Or can you? Apparently not.

I made my account in the early 2000s sometime. Each time I come back, I have to get my password recovered. Each time I come back, the security level goes up a bit. This time, I'm completely unable to log in, and each time I try to get my password recovered, it's denied. Not only that, but this time, my account has just disappeared from the high score list. I'm concerned.

I'm somewhere around 100 combat or so, 1400+ total level, and have some expensive items (phat, a few Santa hats, and a huge collection of other stuff). I've put a lot of time into it, so I don't want to have to start over. I had another novelty character (level 13 or something equipped with a rune weapon and a Santa hat) that I also can't get into, but I'm much less concerned about that. I just want my main back.

I was a member before, but I don't remember when exactly, and don't keep records from that many years back. I'm feeling like it's just gone forever. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or any ideas why my main has mysteriously disappeared from the high score list?

Any help would be much appreciated. T.T

If your old password isn't working, and you're not in the highscores, it sounds like your accounts been banned. If your recovories aren't working, the only thing I can think of is the "account review" thread in the RSOF, quickfind code is 103-104-3-58567982. Would you like me to post a message there for you?

I don't know if my password's working or not. I've tried around 30 of my usual passwords and none work (the new 5 minute thing is annoying). I haven't even logged in for about a year, and I don't think I've ever been banned. It's worth a shot, though. If you wouldn't mind posting, I'd appreciate your effort!

I remember years ago they deleted accounts that haven't been logged into for more than 3 months.. but I don't know if that's a regular routine or they just did it once to clean up.

I haven't played the game for 4 years (came back about 2 months ago) but made sure to log in every few months to make sure something like this didn't happen.

You might want to send a query to Jagex asking them how often they delete accounts (or even if they do it)... if you tell them your account name, they would be able to tell you if your old account(s) exist for sure.

Edited to add: I would find it surprising if they actually deleted accounts like that, especially ones who are much higher lvl.. so who knows, that account deletion thing could have just happened once, or its a regular routine, but it only wipes out low lvl characters. So I wouldn't panic yet.. There'll be a way to recover your account, especially if you've lived at the same place (or even city) in the last couple of hours.. I believe they do ask that in password recovery, and still no luck?

Somebody might have hacked you and got you perm banned. That's the only reason I can think of that your stats would be removed from highscores. That happened to my friend in rs, he told me on another account he made.

I would try that, but I actually have no idea how to get in contact with support. That's part of the reason I'm feeling like this is a lost cause. I keep getting recoveries denied, and keep looking for some way to get in contact with an actual person, but I'm having no luck.

I don't even have a spare account high enough to post on the official forums, and if I did, I wouldn't know which section to post in; none of them seem right.

Oh, no, I moved around quite a bit. I don't remember my old addresses or postal codes, but it was all within the same city.

Hmm... Well, I'm sure someone here could help you out if you gave us your details.. That's funny, I just checked the Help section and you can no longer send a custom message to Jagex... or maybe I can't find it?

Well I'm sure you could find that information... I'm assuming you live with your parents.. they could tell you, or look at past bill statements or other mail etc.

Did you go to Help --> Password Recovery? Is that what got denied? If you can give them more information, it would definitely help.. It looks like they ask for information like:

-when the account was created (stupid really, I can't tell you the exact month I created my account)

-Your internet provider

-Have you ever moved...

-and in the custom section - you could give them your name (if you had members before, they should have your name), old phone number, addresses, etc..

Yes, that's what I've been trying. I can't answer all of the 5 security questions ("favorite" things? Like that doesn't change in 6+ years? >.<) I can't answer which months I paid for membership, but I did fill out the last 4 digits of the credit card used, and I did mention the credit card holder's name in the very small amount of text you're allowed to type in.

I can't remember which passwords I've used, but I tried a few that I know I used at one point. Not good enough, I guess.

I definitely can't remember the year I created my account, never mind the month.

In the box you're allowed to type in (300 character limit, I believe, too small), I was able to fit my real name, date of birth, city, (as mentioned earlier) credit card holder's name, a few old postal codes, and that's it. I wait a while, and it always comes back saying "denied".

Maybe it's just time to move on for good. This is not worth it.

either hackers got on and banned it or maybe wrong username...

I'm going to ask a question on the official forums for you.. I've never used the official forums before, and don't know if Jmods answer questions on there, but hopefully I can get one.

I'm asking if they delete accounts, and how to know the status of an account (banned or deleted as they're not showing up on hiscores)... and general questions about your password recovery attempt, and how crazy it is (I wouldn't be able to fill in more than 3 of those details asked).. I'll send you a link in a few minutes.

Thank you so much. It seems like the best way to get help from actual support staff is from the forums, but if you lose your account, you can't do that. >.< One odd thing about that theory, though, is that one of my accounts is completely fine. My main is gone from high scores, my other lost account was too low leveled to ever be on high scores (but had a Santa hat). The account that's okay is around level 45, and only has combat skills and fishing/cooking skills (including woodcutting and fire making). The level 45 account also had absolutely nothing of value. Just a rune 2H, ruby amulet, and a set of black armor.

So I guess, if any accounts were going to be hacked, it would be those 2. But unless Jagex had a recent security vulnerability or something, I don't see how that could have happened.

Thanks for your help. If I do manage to get it back, great. If not, well, I'm sure I'll get over it eventually. >.>

You're welcome. Check your private messages. I sent you the link.

Well apparently they do not delete accounts - confirmed by Jmods before according to one person.

But you should still be able to log in if your account was banned.... Are you sure you have the correct username?

I'm an idiot. I found my real account name. So very sorry to everyone whose time I wasted. >.< A huge thank you to DeltaER for providing the answer to my problem.
