Contact! Guide, add seer's headband to tips

Recommended Posts

I noticed in the Contact! quest guide, you make no mention of the Seer's Village headband. I have tried the quest both with and without it (not with two different characters. Let's just say the boss isn't very nice). The headband makes the quest 5X easier in the dungeon because there is no worry about the light going on, as well as providing an extra 2 inv. spaces (tinderbox isn't necessary.) Just though that small tip should be in the quest guide.

I agree whole-heartedly. In fact, I'd go farther and say that ANY quest that requires a light source that it would be reasonable to expect a person to have completed up to say, medium level sections of the seers' village achievement diary, it should be included as a note (wherever it's indicated that the danger of your light source going out adds danger or difficultly to your quest).

The only one it doesn't work on is the Haunted Mine quest. You still need the glowing fungus (I thought I could get tricky and use the Seer's headband 3 there, but no...).

Lol, never thought about it in the Haunted Mine, but apparently Jagex was one step ahead of you :P. Anyway, I completely agree that all quests that need a lightsource should mention it, because it still saves at least 1 inv. spot and never goes out.

On the one hand, I entirely agree with you both.

On the other hand, how many people have completed a section of the Seers' diary? Each level of headband gives more light, from dim (1) to bright (3).

The mining helmet would also be an excellent source (the first day there was talk that it went out, but not since). But ... how many people have 65 firemaking to use it?

It's probably appropriate to add to the Contact! guide since that's a high level player quest, and all other lamps can go out, but ... adding it to EVERY guide on the site would be a LOT of places, where a LOT of low level players wouldn't be able to use them anyway.

I recommend to you the lanterns section of the Firemaking guide, which does now contain the seer's headbands (most likely at SportsGuy's suggestion, lol): http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?p ... m#Lanterns

I think it illustrates why we don't list every type of light source. We probably ought to be linking to this guide section when we mention "light source". Argh. I just made work for myself. #-o :XD:

/me walks away grumbling about good ideas that make work

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.

As I previously mentioned, since it's a light source that doesn't ever go it, it would be especially useful in any quest that a light going out would be dangerous (or where an uncovered light source is also dangerous). There aren't many of those and I know "grading" quests wouldn't necessarily help, but in quests where level requirements match or exceed those of a portion of the Seers' Village diary, it might be beneficial.

As you mentioned, I think re-vamping the light source portion of Firemaking and linking to it might be advisable instead of mentioning carrying a candle or a lamp in a higher level quest.

I have no strong opinion on the matter, but as the original poster mentioned, it is almost invaluable in at least one quest (Contact!) and probably useful in a few others.
