Shepherdman7
I'm about to take on my first Nechy task when I get around to it. I know that they drop crimsons well, so I'm looking forward to it. Quick questions, though: 1. Is it really necessary to pray melee against them? (See stats hidden in my sig, if it helps.) Prayer pots are so pricey currently. 2. Better in Chaos Tunnels with a fighting familiar or should I just go to the Morytania Tower and slay them with the Bunyip? 3. I know they summon Death Spawn... worth killing them or just move on to a new Nechy? I seem to see people doing both. Thanks in advance, and let me know if there's anything else I need to be aware of. -Shep *******"All that is gold does not glitter..."
Zaaps1
Do them in CT. You won't need prayer or even food. Excalibur + bunyip is fine for me. Although you should bring ppots to pray Superhuman strength. 2 ppots is more than enough for 1 task though, and it does help quite a bit. Ignore the death spawns entirely. They don't even do a lot of damage. Really, Nechs are just like greaters. Bring exactly what you would bring for greaters, except anticipate a bit more damage (hence excalibur, not dds). You'll also get similar drops, except worth much more on average. ~It's Super Effective! Cptbaker08
They are great to chin though. If you do chin make sure you attack the death spawns. Other wise killing in the CT with a fighting familiar will help, I'd rather have a bunyip to heal so i can focus more on attacking then having to heal as often. But thats just me. You should make a profit from the task. Rune boots are common, i got 4 in my last task of them (196 nechs). They also drop seeds very often and are great crimson charm droppers. Shepherdman7
Thanks for both of your replies. You've each got stats that are a bit better than mine, so I would anticipate having a bit more food that I would need. It seems clear that praying is unnecessary, though (unless chinning). I'll probably use a Bunyip instead of combat familiar, since I don't quite have enough charms for 79 Summoning yet. Seems I should bring some alch runes, too, eh? I'm planning to wear my best melee armour and ignore the magic-casting spawns... just correct me if I'm wrong. *******"All that is gold does not glitter..." The bunyip will cover the low hits from the death spawns along with the hits from the nechs. If you're not going to use a CB familiar then i suggest going to the slayer tower to avoid those that are using combat/chinning in the CT. And alch runes are really needed. They tend to drop mainly runes and seeds which stack. But you can get a few items to alch. Zaaps1
Personally, I've never need alch runes there. Actually, the CTs aren't crowded, so go there no matter what, unless you are normally ranging (safespot at Tower). Since they are a lot more nechs closer together in the CTs, it's much better to go there. ~It's Super Effective! urza88
1. Melee pray not required. Strength prayers are useful. 2. Chaos Tunnels with a bunyip, and a few pieces of food. It is empty most of the time. Plus you can go kill Bork after you're done. I did need quite a bit of food to finish a long (~180+) task with a combat familiar out, even with maxed melee stats - using a defender instead of a shield, and letting Death Spawns beat on me might have played a part though. 3. Ignore the Death Spawns. Be aware that it is harder to 'outrun' them in the CT than in the Slayer Tower. Bring an extra bunyip pouch too. If you're worried about taking too much damage, bring Super Defence pots.
Zaaps1
Excalibur covers the extra food you need and the super defense pots (although bring 1 shark for emergencies). Works fine for me. ~It's Super Effective! Shepherdman7
I'm slaying them now and seem to be doing fine with just Excalibur. Thanks for all the tips. These are wonderful to kill... *******"All that is gold does not glitter..."
