Waterfiends advice please?

I hear everyone uses high mage defence and range prayer... Why not use high range defence and mage prayer? It seems the waterfiends use their attacks about the same amount each, is this true? Also, what is some good mage defence gear other than Karil's that's better than black dragonhide (if any)? I really would love to know, and any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Their range attack is magic based, if you wear high range def armour it has low mage def and will get shredded by their range attacks.

 

Armadyl is your only bet, or void maybe.

Arma > Karils > Black D'hide. Don't use void unless your 95+ def. The attacks from the WFS will tear through the low defense of the Void. Karils is ideal as it has great magic defense, Arma has some negative attack bonuses i believe. If you can't get either of those Black D'hide will work just as well. Be sure to bring more food though.
