RayOxide
There have been some things I have secretly been testing lately. (I got dragged away camping TzHaar for a while though, kinda breaking now. ) So I wanted to clear a few things up - using a simple Tank Ranging setup, I was wondering which would be more efficient. Using a Neitiznot, Blessed Spirit Shield and Proselyte Legs, whilst praying 10% Defence. -- Would this be better than using a Neitiznot, Rune kiteshield and Torags/Dh legs? (My defence level is 80) Im not very good with percentages. With certain things, should I use a tanker set; Super defence and Ranging potions? I guess I should but I just want to know if its really more worth it. Semi Offtopic, but a question about Mage Tanking - Is there ANY thing I could tank with magic? May update with more questions as I think along. I dont need a siggy no moar.
tigershelby2
for mage tanking i think the only real way would be to have a good pray bonus and pray protect from____ Barrows: Verac- Helm, Brassard x 2,Torag- Body, HammersKaril- CrossbowGuthan- BodyAhrim- Hood, Staff
Zaaps1
Use Saradomin Brews for tanking if you are using Range Pots. The standard rule for repotting is every 5 minutes. So if you drink a Range pot, then wait 5 minutes, that's the time you should drink another dose. However, if you drink a SARADOMIN BREW at that time, your range level will be knocked down to your normal level, you will get a defense boost that is 2 levels superior to the super defense potion, and you will get an hp boost, which no one can say is bad. Then you simply drink the range pot. I do this all the time during slayer. If I drink a pure set, my attack and strength are at 118. When they are 113, I drink a sara brew. This takes my defense up a lot, gives me 24 hp healing, and puts my attack and str at 99/99. Then I drink another pure set and I am 118 attack and strength again, completely cancelling out the bad effects of the brews. It is a common misconception that you need restores to efficiently use brews. That is incorrect. However, this does require that you either bring at least 1 dose or restore or go the first 5 minutes without using brews. When you first enter the area, your levels will not be running out of the potion boost. At that point, you can either drink the range pot and don't use brews for 5 minutes, or you could drink a brew, then a dose of restore, then a range pot. ~It's Super Effective! RayOxide
So, Zaaps, I do this.. 1 Sara pot 1 Restore 1 Range --5 mins 1 Sara pot 1 Range ? It was a little confusing lol I dont need a siggy no moar.
Zaaps1
So, Zaaps, I do this.. 1 Sara pot 1 Restore 1 Range --5 mins 1 Sara pot 1 Range ? It was a little confusing lol Correct. Then every 5 minutes after that you simply drink 1 brew dose and 1 range pot dose. Although...during slayer I've always used super attacks/strengths. I'm not sure if the normal range potion will give you enough of a level boost to handle the negative effect of brews. I would try it. If it works, it is EXTREMELY useful. If not, well, super defenses aren't bad : (Although you could just use EE then to mimic the effects of Brews). ~It's Super Effective! RayOxide
A restore potion doesnt bring raised stats down does it? I could use a simple cheap Restore potion and then a Range potion? I'll try that if you think it will work/help. If I dont seem to like it I'll just go with Sup Def/Range. Anyone on the praying? Normal Restore: "Restores combat-related stats back to normal by 30% of level plus 10. " Range at 84 atm, will that bring me to 82 or higher with one dose after a Brew? I dont need a siggy no moar. RayOxide
It raises by 10% + 4. So 8.4 rounded down is 8 + 4 = 12. Making me do this myself. :| Ok, so, I will see how it works. Brew -> Restore -> Range -> RAPE. I dont need a siggy no moar.

Brew -> Restore -> Range -> RAPE. Ok so +12, after 5 minutes it turns into +7. Super restore reduces your level up to 9. I'd say you're in a bit of a danger zone, but since you're 84 ranged, I'm guessing it should be fine. ~It's Super Effective! RayOxide
That didnt make sense... Plus Im talking about normal restores >.> They're dirt cheap. I think if I use a Brew, then use a restore, I will go to barely under my original range, or close enough to it. And a range pot from there would push it up. Right? Wont post for a while, you have time to work it out for me Mate ;P I dont need a siggy no moar.

I think if I use a Brew, then use a restore, I will go to barely under my original range, or close enough to it. And a range pot from there would push it up. Right? Wont post for a while, you have time to work it out for me Mate ;P Shoot, I mean Saradomin Brew not Super Restore. You can drink 3 doses of brews before you need to drink 1 dose of super restore, but that's super restore. But still, 1 and 1 ratio should do fine. Saradomin brew reduces your ranged by 10%. That's 8 levels. The range pot increases your level by 10%+4. So if you drink a range pot, you will be at level 96. Now here's a change, after 4 minutes you will be at 92. THAT'S when you repot. If you drink a brew at level 92 range, you will get a 25% defense boost, 15% hp boost, and a -10% range boost, bringing your range down to a perfect 84 base level. Then drink another range pot and you've got 25% defense, 15% hp, and 96 range. So you should work out fine, just repot every 4 minutes, not 5. If you repotted every 5, you'd drink the pot at level 91/84. You'd drink ranged down to 83/84. Then if you drink the range pot you'd only get to level 95, and each time you do this cycle you get 1 ranged level less from the potion. So in conclusion, here's what you do: Enter the area, drink 1 dose of brew and then 1 dose of restore. Proceed to drink 1 dose of range pot and start killing. After 4 minutes, you will get to 92/84 ranged. Drink a sara brew, then drink a range pot. Continue killing. After another 4 minutes, you will get to 92/84 ranged. Drink a sara brew, then drink a range pot. Continue killing. Etc, etc, for as long as your brews/range pots/food holds out for. ~It's Super Effective! RayOxide
Ah, now 4 mins. I'll see how this works. Probably tank at Blue drags; something I havent tried because of damage. Any info for the prayer tho? I dont need a siggy no moar.
Zaaps1
It is in my opinion that prayer should never go untapped, no matter what you are training. If the location isn't very dangerous and you don't take much damage (eg, your other methods of healing can keep you afloat well enough) then I would pray the 10% range prayer. If the location is dangerous, I'd either throw in the 10% defense prayer or piety. I'd also put in protect item and rapid heal, simply because they really don't drain much prayer and their benefits are pretty helpful. ~It's Super Effective! Cptbaker08
If you're worried about your stats dropping. You can always use the Enhanced Excalibur for 20 HP and ~14 def lvls. Not that great but its better then having other stats get reduced. And since you're ranging you won't really have a use for some other type of special weapon. However, the best EE can do is mimic the effects and it can't do so completely. The Saradomin Brew gives about 10 more defense levels and more hp. Best of all, you can use both for a huge boost of ~44 hp per 5 minutes. ~It's Super Effective!
