Extortion........

Well, recently (as in a few hours ago) I found out that my cousins teacher (shes in high school) is commiting extortion... yeah...

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It goes a little something like this.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Extort

 

 

 

: to obtain from a person by force, intimidation, or undue or illegal power : WRING; also : to gain especially by ingenuity or compelling argument

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Person: cousins teacher

 

 

 

Forced to : Sell (real money involved) T-shirts to people, a quota must be met per week.

 

 

 

Intimidation/Threat: If the quota is not met it is raised, and a grade reduction.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I would like your 2 cents please. (your input)

Tell your principal, and get them to investigate (but tell them to keep you anonymous!). You should never be FORCED to do anything like that.

Does the teacher keep the money, or donate it to charity? If he/she keeps it, it is obviously extortion. If he/she donates it, I would say it is still wrong, but you're going to have a hard time getting police support, I bet.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anyway, I would probably go to the principle before the police. If you go to the police first, you're showing that you're not willing to try and work the situation out peacefully. But if you try and be a diplomat and go to the principle, you can at least try to work it out. If he is completely uncompromising, at least you tried, and then you can go to the police.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Besides, what if it's just a big misunderstanding? Make sure you know what you're getting into before you get the law involved.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I hate when teachers pull stupid stuff like this. Even if it's all for charity and they think they're doing the right thing, they're imposing their own values forcibly on others. Kind of an infringment on natural freedoms.

Going to the police is too drastic of a step to take. Dealing with the principal would be a much better idea.

Skip the principle and go to the Education Department for your state.

But if you want to try there first, then by all means go ahead.
