Digital Camera

I want a digital camera (not SLR). NO idea how much you have to spend to get one, but decent megapixels/indoor picture taking ability/some sort of optical zoom.

I'll determine cost once i know what you can get for what. I"ve looked on newegg, and it's very confusing because I don't know a lot of hte specs.

Thoroughly retired, may still write now and again

My brother recently picked up a really nice 12MP Nikon Coolpix that takes really nice pictures. I think he got it for somewhere around $200-$250 at Bestbuy around the beginning of July I think it was. I have a Canon PowerShot SX100 IS I got around Christmas time about 2 years ago that isn't to bad but it definitely has some wear and tear from letting a friend borrow it a year ago.

Ahh steve you can't lock here... I think :P. I'll answer your question AND direct you to the questions sticky. Hopefully I could answer your question. For what you want you could get by with something fairly cheap, just don't get Sony. Good quality, but what I have found with my two Sony cameras (p+s - point and shoot which is what you will probably want to get) is that they are easily breakable and just take bastards of memory cards.

I'd recommend a camera from the 'Canon Powershot' range. Sturdy, reliable and a fairly good price. The Nikon Coolpix are also quite good. I suppose you want something fairly portable as indoor shooting is what you want. Megapixel wise, you won't REALLY need anything above 8MP unless you are planing to print poster size.

This would be the cheap option - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120338

If you want to splash out $100 more, try this, dodgier reviews though - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120340

Both have good specs, the first 3x zoom, I'm not sure really how to explain it and the second 12x. This would be a good compromise I think - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830120385.

What you really want to look for are positive informative reviews, mainly concerning indoor shooting/low light. Optical zoom - the higher, the further it zooms in. Nikon Coolpix's are really good as well, no other major brand really, aside from Sony.

There you go, that's my two cents. Next time post in the questions sticky :D. PM me any questions or post there I suppose.
