I feel a little stupid asking this question, but I'm slaying right now and I've got a war tortoise familiar out for extra inventory space. For some reason, it has started attacking my targets. It's never done this before, and I'd really rather it didn't do that, since it can cost me some exp.

 

Why is it doing this, and is there a way to make it stop?

I've never used a familiar for combat before so I'm a little confused..

I believe it was runetek 5 update that made most monsters with an attacking ability more likely to attack. there is no way to stop it unless you tell it to attack another monster. only thing I can think of is to stay out of mutli combat areas.

Its not making you lose experience.

It because you're in a mutlicombat area is why. If it was single way it wouldn't attack. And every time it does damage you get defense exp. Either try to kill in a single combat area or don't worry about the small def exp it will give.

I had heard that if your familiar does the final damage to your slayer monster, then you don't get get the slay exp for the kill.

Is that true, or not?

Not now. But at some point it was.

Yes, they will always come in to attack if in a multi area.

 

BTW, with very few exceptions, you lose money using a tortoise compared to a terrorbird, because those extra 6 slots are costing you 12,000 gp.

I was using it on a Warped Tortoise assignment, so I was getting enough shells to make tons more war tort pouches ;P
