Ranging Black Dragons

Featured Replies

Just a quick question, do I have to wear an anti dragon shield and bring potions when ranging black dragons?

Thanks :)

It's not required, though I'd advise doing so. The shield that is, not the antifire potions.

So the breath isn't long range like metal dragons, but the shield would be just in case I were to run in front of one or not safespot right?

I'd always bring an anti-fire shield as you can get attacked running to a safespot or when you attack you might walk out into the dragon's attack range. You could also bring a zammy book to swap after you are attacking it, just remember to swap back to the shield when you run out to get drops.

I strongly recommend you bring an anti-fire shield; for when luring goes wrong, you lagg, or something unplanned happens: I.E dc/ing when luring.

It does more good than harm.

I have no intrest in helping "keyers" farm xp.

Indeed bring ranging potions and the shield/zammy book if you have one to swap when your in the safe spot. By the way I started messing around with these so I can give you a little insight on what you're getting into. At 99 ranged and 204 ranged attack bonus it takes me about 25 minutes to kill 17 black dragons bank the hides/bones and run back (using terrorbird) at the evil chicken lair. That's 40 dragons per hour; 30k ranged experience per hour and 360k revenue per hour (black dragonhide is not worth the current 6.xK but rather 4.5kish). If you got a visage per 5,000 kills add 300k revenue per hour, of course the actual drop rate and whether or not you would get one are a completely different story. Nonetheless its an interesting semi-afk spot where you can make consistent money while getting the chance for a big drop.

I've always just flicked on protect from mage prayer when doing stuff like this. You can't stack mage pray with an antifire, but for a few hits the protect from mage prayer works just as good as an antifire.

I still recommend taking an anti-fire, since it reduces the damage you take by A LOT more, but there is an alternative.
