Halp! Installing Original CoD

So today, just for the nostalgia of it, I dusted off my copy of the original Call of Duty. I hadn't touched it since 2004.

 

But once it installed, trying to play it gave me the message "Fatal Error: 17 sound files unreadable." At first I figured it was just an outdated file type that wouldn't work, but they were .wav's. And why just those 17? I installed on my dad's comp, and he has the same specs OS as me. (32-bit Vista) On his, it works, but textures of outdoor areas can be seen through walls and such.

Do you have any PC with XP? Maybe it's a problem with Vista.

Maybe, but it's available for dl over Steam and I can't imagine them selling a game that won't work on Vista. I'll have to check it out and post back later.

 

Edit: Vista isn't listed, but it says "all higher systems", so...

It's not a vista problem as I had it working on both vista and 7. Unfortunately, I can't give an any other help.

They didn't have Vista in 04.

The game was added to Steam much later.

 

Anyway, I bought form Steam with a gift card. Works now. Apparently it does work on Vista, but a few files in the Steam verision were more up to date.
