champion
Because I was a part of a certain program at school, I have free access to a lot of Windows programs that normally would have to be paid for. On the site to download is Windows 7, 64-bit. So, I downloaded it. Unfortunately, now I cannot seem to install it. This is what I get when I try to start the setup: I am running Vista 32-bit currently. According to Windows, however, my computer is capable of running a 64-bit OS: Are you not able to install a 64-bit OS when you're on a 32-bit OS or something? Puzzled why I cannot install it. Any help is very much appreciated.
MageUK
"Upgrading" to a 64-bit OS from a 32-bit one requires a fresh installation. You will need to burn the files to disk and either dual boot with Vista x86 and Win 7 x64 or wipe your Vista x86 and install Win 7 x64 over the top. You can only do a straight "in place" upgrade when you are staying on the same architecture (x86/x64).

I'll just have to wait and see if they put up a 32-bit version to download, I guess. Thanks for your answer. Edit: ha, they do have a 32-bit version up! Never noticed it. I guess this can be left open if I encounter any difficulties installing the proper version.
