For dust devils, are knives or xbows faster exp? Also, do you need the face mask against dust devils in the chaos tunnel?

Rune xbows with broad bolts are better by a long shot, and yes you still need a facemask/slayer helm to fight them in the chaos tunnels.

Black knives/addy darts should be better than broad bolts as they have low defence. There won't be much difference in killing speed though I should imagine. Maybe take them both and compare xp/hour?

 

If pures use knives on Yaks etc over crossbows I should think they'd be better.

My friend (who was a pure) spent countless hours training on dust devils and he used knives and nothing else. I personally haven't compared them both but in theory I would use knives. Black or steel would do fine.

 

Why? Dust devils have low def and you will hit constantly on them. You won't hit as high as broad bolts but I think against a monster which such low def the speed will make up for higher hits of a crossbow.

Knives should work better. And as stated above, face mask needed, otherwise combat stats will be drained.
