January 3, 201016 yr Introduction:In While Guthix Sleeps, Lucien had acquired the Staff of Armadyl and the Stone of Jas. Now, with possession of both of these powerful artifacts, Lucien aims to ascend into Godhood and then use his powers to enslave all races through Runescape: humans, dwarves, and elves alike. His plans for domination of Gielinor can only be stopped by you, brave adventurer. Do you have what it takes? Requirements:-Must have completed While Guthix Sleeps and the Rum Deal-76 ranged (90+ recommended)-70 herblore-75 agility-70 mining-69 farming-Must be very proficient in combat 1 ) To start this quest, speak to Idria in Falador Castle. She will tell you that strange phenomena have been reported throughout Gielinor. A blizzard has buried the normally tropical Port Sarim beneath several kilograms of snow, hordes of undead monsters have emerged from the sands of Al Kharid and laid siege to the city, and an earthquake has caused significant damage to the castle in Ardougne. She fears that Lucien is behind these calamities and sends you to investigate. She gives you a specialized Comm Orb that serves as a camera. 2-4 ) Head to Port Sarim. When you arrive at the docks of Port Sarim, you are blown backwards by a strong gust and you feel chilled. There is snow up to your character's knees on the ground here, and the ocean is frozen for as far as you can see. Talk to some of the sailors here and they will tell you that the troubles began when a man in tattered robes wielding a staff came through. A cutscene occurs, in which a hooded figure is shown walking along the docks, headed in the direction of Draynor. He was attacked by Monks of Entrana and the Void Knights, but effortlessly slaughtered them all, ending the cutscene. The sailors tell you that a few days after he passed through, this blizzard hit. They moan that if it does not subside soon, the port will go out of business. Head east, to Draynor. You learn from the Wise Old Man that the figure passed through Draynor, mumbling something about sand-rats. Continue east, to Al Kharid. When you get there, you see a cutscene of the Warriors of Al Kharid fending off Armoured Zombies. Fight your way to the Palace, where Hassan begs for your help. He says that an outsider who reeked of death came through and summoned an army of undead monsters to attack his precious city. When you ask him if the figure said anything, you are shown a cutscene of the hooded wanderer killing the Al Kharid gatekeepers, walking into the middle of the city and raising a horde of monstrous creatures. He then says "Now that the sand-rats have been dealt with, the time has come to set my sights west." After that, the figure teleports and the cutscene ends. Head to Ardougne to find the castle in ruins. Search around you'll discover Lathas half-buried beneath rubble. He tries to tell you something, but the only intelligible word is "North." He then dies. Return to Falador. 5 ) Show the orb to Idria and she will tell you that the figure, whom she believes is Lucien, is likely trying to cripple the major kingdoms. When you ask why he hasn't attacked Varrock yet, Idria says that it's likely because of the Shield of Arrav. Just then, a cutscene occurs in which the hooded figure appears inside White Knight Castle. He slays several White Knights and transforms them into monstrosities called Liches. The figure says that his plans are already in motion, and that he cannot be stopped. Idria attempts to cast a teleblock spell on him but he easily deflects it. He then deploys three level 225 Liches to kill you, Idria, and the others. Surok calls out to the figure to free him, and the figure hesitates for a moment, but then teleports away. A cut-scene then occurs as the liches descend upon Surok and destroy him. They then turn to you. 6 ) During the fight with the Liches, Idria will be helping you. If she dies, you have start the battle over. Use food on her to heal her, but be careful not to die yourself. Each Lich has 325 HP and uses ranged and magic attacks, both of which inflict poison capable of hitting for 12. The Liches' ranged attacks hit for up to 25 damage and their magic can hit for 20. The Liches also exude a dark aura that drains one prayer point every 3 seconds. After you defeat all three Liches, the dark figure reappears and curses Idria. The other members of the Crux Eqal and Guardians of Armadyl attempt to break the curse, but to no avail. There's only one chance to save her: confer with the only other person who you've met who knows about Mahjarratian magicks: Azzanadra. Go find him at the digsite and he will agree to meet you outside White Knight Castle. Upon meeting him there, the rest of the Crux Eqal immediately sense that he is of the same ilk as Lucien and prepare to assault him-- you stop them by telling them he is the only chance you have. They'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and so Azzanadra will look at Idria and attempt to reverse the spell himself. He tells you that he has saved her for the time being, but the extent of Lucien's magic goes beyond even his own means. Azzanadra instructs you to confer with Brother Jered, the high priest in the Saradomin Monastery. Idria will follow you to the Monastery, and Abbott Langley makes an exception for her, allowing her to climb the ladder. Brother Jered attempts to cure her but fails. He tells you that he has never seen anything like the power of this curse, and he is quite knowledgeable of Mahjarratian curses. There is hope, though. He tells you to seek out Reldo, for he might know of a potion strong enough to break this curse. He says that it's the best chance you have at saving Idria. 7 ) Go speak with Reldo in the Varrock Palace and ask him about a "Miracle Potion." He doesn't know what you're talking about until you explain that Idria was cursed by a Mahjarrat and nothing seems to help ease her anguish. He then deduces that you must be talking about the Elixir of Life, a legendary concoction capable of curing any ailment and the only means of protection from the Forbidden Magicks. He tells you that the information on its ingredients, however, has been lost in the sands of time. He suggests you visit Kaqeemex, the Master of Herblore. Kaqeemex tells you that such a potion does exist, but gathering its ingredients is an arduous task. He tells you that it requires crushed Volcanic Rock, leaves from a Blessed Spirit Weed patch, and must be mixed in stagnant water. To obtain crushed Volcanic Rock, you must mine from the side of the Volcano in the Wilderness and use a chisel on it. This requires 70 mining. To obtain the Blessed Spirit Weed leaves, you must ask the Master Farmer in Draynor for some. He will sell you a pair of seeds for 500,000 gold when charmed with the Ring of Charos. Alternatively, you can attempt to pickpocket one off him, but you need 80 thieving to be able to get one. Plant it with 69 farming and then harvest the leaves-- this plant will never die. Stagnant water can be obtained on Braindeath Isle. After obtaining all the ingredients, mix them together (which requires 70 herblore) to receive Elixir of Life (u). Give Idria a sip of it and nothing happens. Return to Kaqeemex with your half-full vial and tell him that it did not work. He explains that the potion's power needs to be coaxed out by somebody devout. Only then will it be able to break the curse. Take the potion to Brother Jered and he will bless it. Give the remainder of the potion to Idria and she will immediately begin recovering. Afterward, the game fades away to a cutscene... The dark wanderer is accompanied by another hooded figure, who wields the Staff of Armadyl and has a miniaturized Stone of Jas attached to an amulet around his neck. They are leading a massive army of zombies, skeletons, and Liches north through the Wilderness. The screen fades to black and then reappears in an icy, barren wasteland. Lucien and the dark wanderer are accompanied many other Mahjarrat, forming a circle around Jhallan, who is bound in place by a magical shield. Lucien belittles Jhallan for trying to escape his duty, and then Jhallan tries to retaliate against Lucien; the attack is easily deflected and Lucien laughs triumphantly. Jhallan begs for mercy, which receives another bellow of laughter from Lucien. The dark wanderer removes his hood and reveals himself as Zemouregal, and along with Lucien, they begin the rejuvenation ritual. When the ritual is finished, Jhallan is obliterated, much like the heroes in While Guthix Sleeps. Small balls of energy travel from his remains to each of the remaining Mahjarrat. The other Mahjarrat ask if Lucien is ready to "break the seal" and Lucien replies saying there is more to come. Zemouregal watches silently as Lucien effortlessly slaughters the other Mahjarrat and assimilates their powers. Lucien and Zemouregal teleport to the ruined castle in the northeast corner of the Wilderness. 8 ) Idria is feeling much better, so she offers to teleport the both of you back to Falador Castle, where you will regroup. Akrisae says that he felt an incredible force enter the plane of Gielinor, far to the north. Azzanadra offers to assist you, stating that you cannot hope to defeat a being with such incredible magical powers on your own. When you're prepared, talk to him again and he will teleport you both... To the digsite! He says that before you begin the assault on Lucien, he needs to confer with his master on what to do; Lucien's powers are beyond anything this plane has seen since the God Wars. Azzanadra summons the portal with Zaros, and he tells the Empty Lord that Lucien has acquired the Two Artifacts and is nearing his ascension to Godhood. Zaros responds by saying that Lucien proceeded with the Ritual ahead of schedule, slaughtering every Mahjarrat present except one, thereby increasing his own powers exponentially. Azzanadra sighs, knowing that there is only one course of action left to take if Lucien is to be stopped. He offers his body (in a spectacular cut-scene) to bring Zaros back onto Gielinor. Head to the ruined castle, to discover that a deep fissure has opened all around it. Leap over the fissure to enter an instanced area, where the previously ruined castle has been replaced by a massive, eerie fortress. As you enter the Castle, a cutscene occurs where Lucien begins a ritual to channel the full power of the Stone of Jas into himself and ascend to God-hood. Azzanadra gives you a "Scroll of Returning." He tells you to use it when you get to the top, so that if you have to leave, you do not have to traverse the castle and "waste what precious little time remains." 9 ) The inside of this castle is not considered to be in the Wilderness, but it is still very dangerous. It's all multi-combat, and it's swarming with Armoured Zombies, Armoured Skeletons, Nechryaels, Black Demons, and Dark Beasts. There are several side rooms also, which each contain 3 Armoured Zombies and a Lich. Fortunately, Azzanadra fights alongside you until you reach Lucien's chamber. If you die inside the castle, your grave is placed ouside the fissure, as the entire area is instanced. The Castle has four floors, each with an array of traps to navigate. At the end of the fourth floor, you have to fight a Tormented Demon. After you slay it, Azzanadra will suggest that you use the scroll he gave you. Do so then proceed through the large double doors, where you meet Lucien and Zemouregal, who are guarded by three Draconic behemoths, who taunt you. Lucien says that he was initially surprised when the Dragonkin made their presence known in Gielinor, but he didn't have much trouble enslaving them. He says they make "more than able bodyguards, since they cannot be harmed by mortal weapons." Azzanadra counters both Lucien's and the Dragonkin's banter by casting an ancient spell on the three monsters, causing the shields around them to vanish. Lucien then imprisons Azzanadra within a magical barrier and sends the Dragonkin to kill you. Fortunately, the throne room is not multi-combat. Unfortunately, if you teleport out, Lucien heals the Dragonkin to their full HP. Before the battle begins, Kuradal teleports into the room and she and Lucien exchange taunts. Each level 479 Dragonkin has 375 HP and uses melee, magic, and ranged attacks, as well as firebreath. Their firebreath is poisonous, capable of dealing 10 poison damage and hitting up to 25 even with an anti-fire shield, or 15 with a pot + anti-fire shield, or 10 with a super-anti pot + shield. Their melee attacks can hit up to 35 damage, their magic hits up to 25 and drains your attack and strength by 5%, and their ranged attacks can hit up to 30 and stun you for 1.8 seconds. Their magic is extremely accurate. During this battle, Kuradal will constantly help you by casting Vengeance, Heal Other, and also by damaging the Dragonkin (her max hit against them is 40). 10 ) Once you slay the Dragonkin, you get a small break. To advance to the next section of the quest, you have to approach and talk to Lucien. Resupply if needed then talk to him and he will tell you that he didn't know it was possible for a mortal to possess such strength. He then follows that statement by professing how irrelevant your efforts were, and then he sends Zemouregal to dispose of you. Zemouregal is level 575 with 1500 HP and four attacks. His first attack is to summon three level 111 Skeleton Warlords to attack you; these monsters have 150 HP and can hit up to 10 with their attacks-- they use melee and ranged. His second attack is a swipe of his sword, which deals magic-based melee damage up to 35 and drains your prayer by 5% with each attack, regardless of the damage done. His third attack is to use shadow blitz on you, and his fourth attack is to use blood barrage, healing off both you and his own minions. Kuradal helps here, too, and her max in this fight is 75 against Zemouregal and 150 against the Skeleton Warlords. 11) After you defeat Zemouregal, he calls out to Lucien to help him. He applauds Zemouregal's performance, saying that his plan worked perfectly. You weakened Zemouregal enough so that Lucien could absorb him, which he does. Lucien says that his ultimate goal was to assimilate the powers of every remaining Mahjarrat, so that he can have enough power to summon the Empty Lord and take his powers, completing his ascension to god-hood. Only then will he be strong enough to defeat Zamorak. A cutscene occurs in which Lucien thanks you for bringing him Azzanadra, the last piece to his puzzle. He binds both you and Kuradal in place, forcing you to watch as he begins assimilating Azzanadra. During this cut-scene, Lucien and Azzanadra fights, and Lucien realizes that Azzanadra's powers are abnormally strong. Just as Azzanadra gets Lucien red-barred, Lucien impales him with the Staff of Armadyl, absorbing all of Zaros' powers. The resulting surge of power transforms himself into a monstrously large behemoth. When you attack him (he doesn't have a level at this point-- just a yellow "Attack- Lucien") he apparently kills you with a single blow. Thankfully, when you wake up in Falador Castle (which occurs regardless of your spawn point), you retained all your items. 12) Idria explains that Kuradal broke free from Lucien's spell just in time and teleported you both to safety moments before Lucien could finish you off. In the process, she used all her powers to seal Lucien inside his castle, though she does not think the seal will last for long. You tell everybody that Lucien's powers are beyond anything this world has ever seen. You lament that Lucien is omnipotent, but Thaerisk suggests one last-ditch effort to stop him: Movario. She says that her network of spies have conclusive evidence that Movario continued to associate with Lucien after he acquired the Stone of Jas, so he might know the secret to his power. Go to Movario's base, and you find his body at the top. Search the base and you'll discover a memoir, well-guarded by traps. Apparently Movario was working with Lucien, studying the effects the Stone of Jas had on him. He realized that Lucien's thirst for power could never be satisfied, that Lucien would destroy the world if he continued on this path. He then ran away, hoping to share what he had learned in order to mount a resistance against Lucien. Lucien's spies tracked him down and killed him to prevent that. In the memoir, he says that if anybody finds it, the secret to Lucien's power lies in the Staff of Armadyl. If you can destroy the gemstone at the top of the staff, it becomes useless and he has no way to wield the raw power possessed within the Stone of Jas. Only then is he vulnerable. 13) Return the Castle with full food and ranged equipment. Kuradal remains at White Knight Castle, with the explanation that she has to focus all her energy on keeping Lucien sealed inside the Castle. Make your way back to Lucien's chamber, where you now get to fight the biggest, baddest boss in RS. Lucien himself has a lifebar that is twice the size of the Corporeal Beast's. If you Monster Examine him, it says that he is level 999 and has 9999 HP. You want to attack the Staff of Armadyl, which has 300 HP. Lucien's attacks can all deal up to 115 damage, but he uses an animation before his magic and ranged attacks, much like Tztok Jad. With his Magic attack, black energy will gather on the top of his staff for 2.4 seconds and then he will hurl a black ball of energy at you. With his melee attack, he swings his massive claw at you. It has no preliminary warning, but you shouldn't be in range to be hit by this, anyway. His ranged attack consists of him swiping the ground, crunching it into a ball in his fist, and flinging it at you. The process takes 3 seconds. It's a long fight, but it can be won with patience. Like with the other fights, if you die, your grave will appear outside the entrance to the castle. The Staff of Armadyl's HP is completely restored if you leave by any means, including death. 14 ) After you deplete the HP of the Staff of Armadyl to 0, a cutscene occurs and the gemstone shatters. Lucien's size greatly diminishes, but now the real battle begins. If you need to restock, run to the door and leave his room. Due to Kuradal's spell, you cannot teleport out of the room. Lucien is now level 666, has 500 HP and four attacks. His first attack is a simple teleportation technique, like the Abyssal Demons. He always follows it up with a melee attack consisting of two quick jabs with his fists, each capable of dealing up to 20 damage (up to 40 damage total). His next attack consists of gathering energy for 3 seconds and flinging a black orb at you. This attack is magic-based, reduces all combat stats by 15% if it hits and can deal up to 45 damage. Lucien's final attack consists of a whirlwind forming around Lucien's hand for 2.4 seconds and then a black dart shooting at you for up to 35 damage, which has a chance to drain your prayer by 15%. 15) After defeating the most difficult boss in the game, loot his body and return to Idria with the good news. She tells you that the blizzard in Port Sarim has subsided and the hordes of undead in Al Kharid mysteriously vanished. She hands over 1m gold as a reward for your valor and augments any skill over 70 by 150,000 experience. This can be done five times. Rewards: -5x 150,000 xp in any skill over 70.-1,000,000 coins-Shattered Staff of Armadyl There are four shards needed to repair the Staff of Armadyl, which are obtained as rare drops by fighting Liches inside Lucien's Castle (about a 1 in 150 drop rate). They do not drop shards of the Staff until you slay Lucien and complete the quest. Also note that, because Azzanadra died, he no longer assists you in traversing the Castle. You receive the shaft of the staff as a reward from the quest, but should you lose that or if you did not pick it up when you killed Lucien, you can obtain it as a semi-common drop from a Lich. To repair the SoA, you need 80 smithing, 85 prayer and 85 crafting. To wield it, you need 80 magic and 80 attack. In addition, there are seven Blessed Jewels that can be obtained as very rare drops from any kind of demon. K'ril Tutsaroth has the best chance of dropping them, at about 1 in 75. Each Blessed Jewel can be attached to the shaft of the staff, imbuing it with a fraction of the power of that element. When a specific jewel is imbued, spell costs involving that rune are reduced by one. There is an Earth Jewel, Fire Jewel, Air Jewel, Water Jewel, Blood Jewel, Chaos Jewel, and Death Jewel. To attach them, it requires 95 crafting and 90 magic. You can only have two lesser (elemental) jewels (even of the same type) and one greater (chaos/death/blood) jewel attached at one time. The Staff of Armadyl obtains the title "Staff of Armadyl (I)" and becomes non-tradable while imbued with any Blessed Jewels. You can remove a jewel at any time, but it will be destroyed in the process. January 9, 201016 yr After Azzanadra (imbued with Zaros) is stabbed by Lucien, does that mean Zaros is finished as a god for good? I suppose this quest is intended as the final part of the Mahjarrat series, although I'm not sure it satisfactorily ties up all the loose ends from the various "branch" quests.
January 9, 201016 yr Aside from his goals of being a god, Lucien doesn't really want to slaughter all his Mahjarrat "brothers". At least from what I could remember, he wants all the known leaders of Runescape to be replaced by Mahjarrats. He wants to rule over them as the lord of the Mahjarrats too. He needs the stone of Jas to do this during the ritual. Some kind of "insurance" to convince his fellow Mahjarrats to side with him and pick him as their leader because some of them are Zarosians. Nice quest idea though. I do agree that Zarosian Mahjarrat allies will be quite helpful in fighting Lucien.
