Jernlov
Recently, I came to notice that my 8800GTS has been reaching exceptionally high temperatures. When I first built this PC, it idled 65-70C. Now, it usually sits in the 75-80 range idle, but under load it can quite easily reach up to 100. I've not modified or overclocked the card in any way - it is stock. There does not seem to be an abnormal amount of dust in the fan from what I can see, but I'll unscrew the card and double-check later. Here are some screenshots from GPU-Z: Overview: Idling: Max temp after playing Portal for five minutes: My screen resolution is currently 1280*1024, 60Hz, and I was running Portal at the recommended settings (all textures set to high, 4x AA). I am aware that I am slightly behind on driver versions, but my Internet connection is not stable at the moment so I will upgrade those later. I have searched Google for optimum temperatures and some people are reporting idle temperatures of <60C. Are XFX cards known to run hot, or is mine really abnormal? I have nothing between the bottom of my case and the fan of the graphics card. I am not experiencing any lag or screen artifacts whatsoever; I'm just curious as to why it is running so hot when it doesn't seem to have anything blocking the airflow. OldJoe
No, not really any significant tempratures. Those cards are old, big and get quite hot easily. 100c is not desireble but i wouldn't call it dangerous. The life expectancy gets reduced the hotter parts run, but it's impossible to say how long it will last. Artifacts may start to show whenever. I would use a can of compressed air to it to blow off any crap that's there. Your temps at 90 isn't a problem, that's normal. You could buy a case fan and get some hot air sucked out. J'adore aussi le sexe et les snuff moviesJe trouve que ce sont des purs moments de vieJe ne me reconnais plus dans les gensJe suis juste un cas désespérantEt comme personne ne viendra me réclamerJe terminerai comme un objet retrouvé
Nadril
Yeah that sounds about normal for an older 8800GTS. Like Joe said you could always get another case fan or something if you are really worried about it. And slightly off topic but it reminds me when my old 6600GT overheated. Jernlov
Thanks guys. I just wanted to double-check before I started playing around with it and trying to cool it. Steam | Soup | Last.fm
