GUIDE to OWNing NOMAD

Recommended Posts

Ok, ima do this guide after killing nomad, reputed to be the toughest quest boss npc and even one of the toughest npcs to date, on my 3rd try.

My first try failed cause I had never used sara brews/restore pots ever and didnt exactly understood their effects so most of the time i was fighting nomad with 30/92 range.. -.-

My second try failed cause I was trying to save some cash and used terrorbird instead of tortoise for beast of burden. It resulted in too little brews.

Third try was a success and I had 1 brew, 2 restore pots, 1 pray pot remaining.

Recommended stats:

DEFENSE: 90++ the higher the better to defend against him when he goes berserk at 1/4hp.

RANGE: 85++

HP: 85++ due to one of nomad's spec which hits 75 all the time.

PRAY: 70++ piety is sufficient. If you have 95 pray and is able to use turmoil, go ahead, otherwise stick to the old prayer book.

^^ those are the stats recommended for my method. attack and str are not involved since you will only be ranging him. If you want to melee him, good luck. :D

Recommended inventory and equipped items:

HELM: Armadyl helm> Neitizoit> Archer's helm

AMULET: Fury> Glory> any other [cabbage].

CHEST: Armadyl chestplate> Karil's leatherbody> Black dragonhide body> [cabbage].

LEGS: Armadyl skirt> Black dragonhide legs> [cabbage].

SHIELD: Dragonfireshield> Spirit shield> any other high def shield [dun lower range bonus too much]

WEAPON: Rune crossbow> noob crossbow.

Gloves: Barrows gloves> Any vambraces.

BOOTS: Dragon boots> Any other range boots.

CAPE: Ava's accumulator> Trimmed Skillcape> err team cape? [cabbage].

ARROW SLOT: Ruby bolts [e]

WHAT I WORE:

Picture1-11.png

INVENTORY:

9,10 RESTORE POTIONS

2 PRAYER POTIONS

DRAGON DAGGER, ANY MELEE WEAPON YOU MAY WANT [i didnt bring any though]

1 SUPER SET, OVERLOAD POTION [yet again i didnt bring any]

1 SUMMONING PET TO USE FOR FIGHTS

The rest BREWS

You should already have a summoned BoB of at least tortoise or pack yak and it should contain all your sara brews

MY INVENTORY:

Picture2-6.png

PRAYER TO CHOOSE:

OLD PRAYER BOOK-

EAGLE EYE

PROTECT AGAINST MELEE***

Picture4-3.png

note: protect melee only when normad goes crazy.

NEW PRAYER BOOK-

LEECH RANGE, TURMOIL..

DEFLECT MELEE***

***Use these prayers ONLY when Normad goes crazy at 1/4hp. Otherwise, its pretty useless.

Method to Pwning Normad:

-- Summon your beast of burden with all your brews and engage Normad in Battle.

-- When the Normad begins striking you normally, with whatever he is using, pot up, on range bonus prayer, step a few squares away from him and range him with ruby [e] bolts.

-- The Normad will alternate between 4 special moves that he has. Take note of the order since it will always be the same.

-- When he uses the spec that lays the mines around you, breathe a sigh of relief because it will not affect you. Just stand where you are [do not move], and range him as per normal. [This is the reason why only range is recommended. You minimise the rate of clicking you have to do if you hybrid melee and range]

-- When he uses the spec where he looks up at the ceiling and funny stuffs appear around his body, MAKE SURE YOU BREW YOURSELF ABOVE 85 HP, this spec will ALWAYS hit 75 and the reason for keeping your hp high is so that IF you ruby [e] bolts happen to spec him, your hp will be:

85++ - 10% of your hp [8,9]= 77++

after damage from normad's spec: 77++ - 75= 2++ [you live...]

-- When he uses the spec that ancient freeze you before he looks up in at ceiling and funny stuffs appear around his body, this is when you panic. BREW YOUR HP AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE!!! Because this spec will hit you your hp-1. So if you have 90hp, he hits you 89.

This makes brews very very very important since when you pot your hp way above normal, e.g.

108/93, normad only specs 92, so instead of 1hp left, you have 108-92= 16hp.

If you survive this, just BREW up yer hp. Don't worry, he will give you plenty of time to drink up.

-- When he uses the spec that makes 3 copies of him, [so total 4 images] hit each image ONCE. If you hit the right Normad, the fake images teleports. This is easy since they only hit less then 10.

-- When your BoB no longer has any brews on it, dismiss it and summon your fighting familiar. [i didnt do this since i only have mith minotaur and his useless against a lvl 699 normad]

-- When Normad has 1/4hp left, he goes insane. This is where it gets VERY EASY. All you need to do is to turn on PROTECT MELEE/DEFLECT MELEE and he will hit zeros pretty frequently. Rape him with your range OR melee, this is where your melee weapon comes in if you hate ranging. :D

[i had 95 def when i did this, and i only used 1 four dose potion brew during his berserk mode and i didnt melee him since i had no melee weap.]

QUEST COMPLETE.

TIPS:

I used 2 dose restore pot for each sara brew spam i did. i didnt use super restore since they are insanely expensive. [20k each?!!!!!]

Everything i did in this quest was to reduce the cost of fighting normad.. thus the usage of terrorbirds in the first, second try... [tort pouches are 12k each o.o!!!] BUT tort is required..

If you die with ava's accumulator, go get another! its better then losing ruby bolt [e] at a 100% rate. [they are 850gp each!!!! o.o~!!!!]

Check that you do not drop your barrows armour on death because it will degrade and you will have to repair it. [thus i only wore karil's chest plate and blk dhide legs, i keep karil's chest as 3 most valuable items on death]

This method's primary objective is to minimise the number of clicks you have to make, e.g. switching melee, range weapon, running around avoiding hits, overall, i believe that if you click less and focus only on clicks on brews and pots, you panic less and there is less risk of you dying. Thus, just tank the 75s, and 90+ specs. Its okay.... better then running around pillars and risk doing it wrong. :s

IF YOU HAVE PICS OF THE QUEST AND WOULD LIKE ME TO INCORPORATE THEM, PLEASE DO SEND ME THE LINK :D

thanks.

This is primarily to help those who have tried again and again without avail against the nomad.

GOOD LUCK.

just to let you know you've got the wrong symbol in your suggested equipment. should be > not <

ie.

CHEST: Armadyl chestplate< Karil's leatherbody< Black dragonhide body< [cabbage].
reads as Armadyl chesplate is worse than Karil's leatherbody which is worse than black dragonhide body which is worse than [cabbage]

what you want is

CHEST: Armadyl chestplate>Karil's leatherbody>Black dragonhide body>[cabbage].
which means Armadyl chestplate is better than Karil's leatherbody which is better than black dragonhide body which is better than [cabbage]

Tried this out, beat Nomad first time with it :D

It never occurred to me to use ruby bolts :P And by the end, even with deflect melee on he was hitting too much, so my geyser titan ended up killing him (I was too busy spamming brews)

If your ranging him, you can step out from the mines *carefully* when he puts them on the ground, remember diagonal stepping works. Then, when he charges his 75 attack, you can hide behind a pillar. Don't stay behind there because if you stay there too long, he heals. But this let me avoid the 75 damage.

Also, I was on curses. I'd rather use sap spells then boost spells. 5% or 10% of his defence is more then whatever boost I'd probably get from eagle eye. His attacks before berserker mode are mage (because the hits splash sometimes.) And with me 88? defence, sap melee and deflect melee, I was able to deal some damage on him myself. I'm pretty sure mage prayer also helps on these. Although, if your using normal restore potions, you'll want to use less prayer then I did :P

Just a few tips that helped me.

Good guide though :)

Also, I reccomend for people to die there a few time in just hides or something, with cheap-ish food, just practicing against his special attacks.

hmm, i stuck with the old prays cus the bonus range gave more % then the leech range in the curses spellbook. furthermore, i couldnt use soulsplit so just stuck with old prays.

as for videos, i didnt record mine so i would appreciate it if anyone here has a good vid that involves ranging only since this is what my guide is about. i would add the link here :D

i know some people use the pillar, but i still wouldnt recommend it since you are busy doing all the clicking and a couple of missclicks could well cost you more hps. furthermore, if you stay behind the pillar for too long, you will have to restart the fight.

With ranging the pillar is easy to use, because I step out of the minefield the moment he puts it on the ground for an easy run there. Then I just start shooting as soon as he runs to the pillar. Also, although your offence bonuses might not get as high with sap spells...What is 10% of nomads defence? Lets say....300. 10% of that is 30 levels. What is 15% boost on your range? At 99, you get a 15% boost. 15 levels. I don't know exact levels, but I'm pretty sure the amount of levels you'd lower nomads stats by is higher then the levels you could boost your levels by.

i know ive been away for a while, but surely he cant be that hard...

I'm gonna be walking down an alley in varrock, and walka is going to walk up to me in a trench coat and say "psst.. hey man, wanna buy some sara brew"

walka92- retired with 99 in attack, strength, defence, health, magic, ranged, prayer and herblore and 137 combat. some day i may return to claim 138 combat, but alas, that time has not yet come

@walka,

well.. it depends.

i know lvl 117s who beat nomad on first try and i know lvl 138s who beat nomad after 10 tries.

however, nomad is without a doubt a really challenging quest npc fight. no other npc in any other quests even come close. as for boss monsters, hm... kbd is a piece of cake, kq is a piece of pie, graadhor is a slice of pie, kree is another slice of cake, blar blar...

only corporeal beast is stronger.. in me opinion.
