I'm soon gonna buy another PC and am not really a tech wizz therefore i need help deciding.

 

I;m getting a Dell Inspiron 546 and am having trouble deciding what is more important the processor, or the amount of RAM

 

I won't be using my PC for any hardcore gaming from pc games apart from RS so was wondering which combination i should get.

 

I was tihnking about maybe a 4gb dual channel (2x 2048) for the RAM and a AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core 7550 (2.5GHz, 512kx2).

 

Would that be any good :S i mean i'd be happy if i dont lag at like TDS or GWD with a comp like that. Any suggestions would be great :)

 

EDIT: I have found another computer its the same price, i believe it has better specifications than the one above. Can someone clarify:

1) Dell pcs have a bad rep. They often go wrong and such, but its ultimately ur choice.

 

2) Its no use having an uber processor without ram or vice versa. You need balance. RAM wise in this modern day and age anything under 1gb is just outright pathetic, Though I'm assuming you meant 4gb since the lowest size ram stick u can get these days is 512mb.

 

3) If you do indeed mean gb tht combo seems fine.

Yh i did mean 4 gb :P lol can you name any good brands then :S cus i really got no clue which PC to buy and i am probaly the one that knows most about PCs in my home lol.

It's a good balance you got there.

But alot of people seem to complain over Dell... I guess HP?

I had a lot of trouble with my Dell, but there are many happy users out there, so it's really hit-or-miss with any company. The CPU and the RAM tell us very little about how Runescape will play. The core of your gaming experience will come from the GPU/IGP (it might be listed as video card or graphics card upon selection-they are all the same, really).

if you're a gamer, you can probably make a better computer piece-by-piece. if you're not... you can usually buy a pre-made computer and be fine.

 

and yeah... if you have an amazing processor (get AMD for budget, intel if you have the money) and your RAM isn't, it's going to bottleneck. also, you can have 144GB of ram but if it's all like 133MHz, it's useless! go for at least 800MHz or 1066. that 667MHz stuff is weaksauce. gamer or not.
