Neohero1972
[Quest solved no further help needed !] Hi I was doing the Contact! quest yesterday and i failed at killing the final boss the Giant Scarab. I was trying to range it using a rune crossbow with steel bolts, however, i could only do damage to it on roughly every 5th. shot ! So i need your advise on how to kill it with out having to purchase lots of expensive bolts - i'm a "knight on a budget", so spending a vast amount of GPs on bolts is not an option. My own plan is to wait until i reach level 70 in ranging (i say this because i couldn't hit it consistently and this might improve with a higher ranging level) and then have a go at it again, but i would like to know if i have other options ? My setup is currently: Helm of NeitiznotRed dragon hide body + legsDragonbootsObsidian capeAmulet of GloryGloves -Barrows- Weapon: Rune Crossbow with steelbolts I used protect from range prayer and i didn't have a huge problem with the locust melee and mage - they didn't seem to do a lot of damage to me, but i was "worn down" due to my inability to hit the Giant Scarab consistently. K4ylan
Try broad-bolts perhaps?RSW reccomends using an Ice spell from the Ancient spellbook as well. There is also a way to trap it so you don't summon locust riders. If you pray range and drink antipoison, it shouldnt even hit you ~~~The Harpy List~~~Harpy Facts~~~It's Super Effective~~~The Beginning~~~Harpy Therapy Center~~~Alg~~~Jedi Harpy~~~Rohirrim~~~Attenuation~~~
Flyingjj
Well there's your problem! The giant scarab has super tough hide that makes it incredibly hard to hit with melee or range. Try magic--the all-knowing tip.it quest guide informs me that the scarab is very weak to it. If I remember correctly, I took a lot of damage casting magic in mage gear, but it took damage a heck of a lot faster than I did.
angel13
You don't have to kill him, in fact i didn't even attack him. i just waited until he stopped attacking and carried on the conversation. John Halo Chief
I read the first sentence and I noticed your problem: STEEL BOLTS FAIL. Broad bolts ftw.
Aiel
use broad/mith bolts, there practically the same price and MUCH better. DK drops (solo/LS): 66 hatchets, 14 archer rings, 13 berserker rings, 17 warrior rings, 12 seerculls, 13 mud staves, 7 seers ringsQBD drops: 1 kite, 2 visages, 4 dragonbone kits, 3 effigies, lots of crossbow partsCR vs. CLS threads always turn into discussions about penis size....It's not called a Compensation Longsword for nothing.I've sent a 12k combat mission to have Aiel assassinated (poor bastard isn't even Pincers-tier difficulty). Neohero1972
Hi Thank you all for replying so quickly. I have been looking at your answers and it seem that broad bolt was the way to go, so i looked at the requirements and found discovered that i have to learn the ability to fletch them and order to make them myself - as i recall i don't have accumulated 300 slayer points, because i have mostly gotten my assignments from Vannaka in the Edgeville Dungeon which means that i would have to purchase them. However, then Aeil made post and i think this is then answer to my problem: use broad/mith bolts, there practically the same price and MUCH better. I can make mithril bolts myself, so this might the way to go - i'm aware of the fact that mithril bolts only adds +82 to ranged strength compared to broad-tipped bolts has +100 Adventurer's Log for Neohero1972

Get Avas accumulator NOW (think the quest is called animal magnetism). Then sell your obsidian cape, buy some decent bolts and "pwn da nubz s(4rab" Gl and Hf give F2P a penny and they want a dime; give P2P a quarter, they want 100,000 dollars, your car, house, boat, social security number, credit card numbers, drivers license, clothes on your back and everything you ever owned or interacted with ever
Neohero1972
Hi I'm currently doing the Contact! quest and i need some advise on how to deal with the Giant Scarab. I have tried to use ranging twice, but that doesn't work for me - it still takes too little damage even though i now use my rune crossbow with broad tipped bolts. Since melee is not recommended, my only option is to use magic, but i'm a bit concerned that i don't have a high enough level nor the right gear ! - below is my intended setup (the best i've got  ) Farseer helm Amulet of Glory Mystic top Mystic bottom Gloves -Barrows- Mystic Boots Mind Shield Guthix Cape Guthix Staff As you can see i intend to cast Claws of Guthix against the Giant Scarab Will this be good enough to return this over sized beetle to it maker ? What should i pray against with this setup ? Adventurer's Log for Neohero1972
