Spice up Javelins and Throwing Axes + Barbarian ranging!

Tired of getting all those javelin drops but no way of using them?

Heres your answer:

The Atlatl!

This is a example of one:

[hide]atlatl.jpg[/hide]

The arching motion of the swing maximizes the power of the throw increasing the range of the javelin.

(i got the idea from one of the redwall episodes lol > http://redwall.wikia.com/wiki/Javelin read last sentence of first paragraph)

The Atlatl does not have a longrange option but the accurate and rapid options fire 10 spaces away.

It would be equipped in the weapon slot and be 1-handed (thus the javelins would be wielded in the ammo slot)

Along with the increased range the atlatl's will give small range atk and str bonuses (this would be added to the javelins bonuses).

Willow Atlatl: +5 atk +5 str REQUIRES 25 RANGE

Cost: 10k tokens can wield up to mithril javs

Yew Atlatl +12 atk +12 str REQUIRES 40 RANGE

Cost: 20k tokens can wield up to addy javs

Magic Atlatl +20 atk +20 str REQUIRES 60 RANGE

Cost: 40k tokens can wield up to rune javs

Or what about thrownaxes?

Thats where Barbarian Ranging (part of Barbarian training) comes in.

At the ranging guide a new master awaits, skilled at thrown weaponry. He can teach you to upgrade your Magic atlatl to a barbarian atlatl with a 85 smithin, 85 fletching and 1 rune bar.

Barbarian Atlatl +30 atk +30 str REQUIRES 70 RANGE

can wield up to hypothetical dragon javs (+750 fletching and smithing xp)

The special is a instant attack (similar to granite maul) that uses 50% special and a damage bonus but with lower accuracy.

He also will perfect the normal thrownaxe to barbarian standards. With a more balanced and sharper edge, they are much more effective.

Name-cost (per 5)-Range atk-Range str

Bronze-50-5-6

Iron-100-8-10

Steel-300-12-16

Mithril-750-19-24

Adamant-1250-28-35

Rune-2000-56-65

(hypothetical)

Dragon-71-83

Morrigan-93-117

(with 1,15,30,55,70, and 85 smithing respectively you can use your thrownaxes with a whetstone, after learning how to from the master to perfect them yourself for no cost with a small smithing bonus)

These can all be tweaked but the general idea is to get them in between arrows and javelins (with atlatl equipped) or cbow

A few bonus ideas:

Poison dart anyone? A poison dart (with strength similar to bronze dart) that has a poison more powerful than p++ (think 25-50% more powerful)

Make the seercull (mage-killer) immune from Miasmic?

I support this suggestion. Because javelins and throwaxes are and shouldn't be ineffective junk.

To start with the criticism, I suggest that you increase the levels required to use those throwaxes, and put a strength requirement (equal to the original ranged level) on as well. Also, I'd like some way to prevent safespotting with throwaxes, just because it's ridiculous. A very short range ought to fix that.

I also compiled a list of some of the highest-tier ranged weapons after your suggestion:

Name: ranged attack/ranged strength/level

Magic short bow with rune arrows: 69/49/50

Obsidian rings: 69/49/60

Magic atlatl with rune javelins: 58/62/60

Barbarian rune throwaxe: 56/65/60 (assuming you up that level requirement)

Runite crossbow with rune bolts: 90/115/61

Barbarian atlatl with rune javelins: 68/72/70

Crystal bow full: 100/70/70

Black salamander: 71/49/70

It seems the thrown weapons fit right in. Maybe the axes could lose 15% accuracy (with black hides and all, this works out to a much smaller overall reduction) to get 5-10% damage. +48 attack and +70 strength on rune axes, just to emphasize their berserkeriness.

On the poison dart: poison that hits 80 or that has a very high chance of poisoning seems OK to me, although it can make it very easy to finish certain (quest) monsters (I'm thinking of the troll general in Troll Stronhold).

I don't see the seercull being immune to miasmic, but if you hit high enough, you could very well disable the spell for a while. In the end, the seercull requires only 50 range, so shouldn't exactly be a big gun.

Props for making a thread trying to update range from it's deep hole of suck, but it will all be in vain because Jagex it too busy making Melee and Magic far more godly.

It would sound good to me if I didn't already know Jagex walks all over range.

Hypocrite. You tell others to be nice then attempt to murder people. Nice going, you just failed life.
