Hard disk drive failure

Windows 7 has been giving me a warning that I should backup my documents because my hdd had some problems, So I ran HD tune.

After scanning my HDD it says that my reallocated sector count failed. Sites on the internet say that when you have this your HDD wont last long anymore.

However, on all these sites the counts were at least 100+, And my current is 2 it says. my worst is also 2, treshold 36 and data 4015

As I only have my pc half a year, It still has garancy. So should I return it now I still have garancy, Or take the risk of getting it crashed when my garancy is expired?

i would make a backup image of your PC using acronis or a similar program to an external harddrive, then take it back to the store where you got it.

they will either replace or repair, either way you will more than likely loose your data, when you have it sorted restore your backup.

cNet Download Link For Acronis

if you need any more help let me know

So it is true that it will only get worse and my hdd just started to die?

Also, how can I avoid this in the future?

Your hard drive is in trouble. It needs to be replaced.

What is happening is this. It is normal for an occasional bad spot to appear on a drive where data can't be read back properly. In the old days the operating system would mark this area as bad and you'd see it as a "bad block" when you looked at the drive's stats. Now what happens is that the drive has a small area of "extra" storage that isn't part of the main storage area. When a bad spot is found, the drive controller marks it as bad in an internal table, and instead substitutes one of the spare areas -- a "reallocated sector". When this happens too often, it means the drive has a problem. In this case you may even have exhausted the available spares.

Hard drives are cheap; data is not. Back up the drive and replace it immediately.

Just getting that message should be sufficient for your warranty to cover the cost of a replacement drive.
