Getting Low Framerates After a Few Minutes in Games

Featured Replies

Hey, I'm having a problem.

After 5-15 minutes of playing a game, it all of a sudden gets bad framerates. This happens on even older games like StarCraft.

I don't know what the problem is. It only seems to happen when I am running games, even browser games like RS have the same issue.

Things I've tried:

-Checked my CPU and GPU for overheating. They are not overheating at all.

-Alt-tabbing doesn't work.

But no luck.

Can someone help me? My computer can run games like AoE3 and Empire at War max settings no problem.

My specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHz Single Core

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

2 GB of RAM

Windows 7 Ultamite (I do not believe it is my OS, as Windows XP had the same issue)

First thing that comes to mind is your Ram - it looks like the worst thing there. It wouldn't hurt at all to pick up another 1gb.

If this has only just started happening though, I don't really know what the cause might be. Have you looked at your task lisk to see how much cpu/memory the processes are using?

I noticed that when the slowdown starts happening, the CPU usage shoots up to 100% and the memory usage goes down.

Interesting - which processes are using up the cpu time? Is it the game exe's themselves?

Do you have any amount of dust in your fans when you look inside the computer?

All the processes CPU usage is the same, from when I start the game to when the game starts slowing down. It's really weird.

And I've cleaned all the dust out of my computer, and I even put another fan in. Still has the issue.
