Ruinous Theme Worlds!

Featured Replies

Theme worlds are terrific for those rarely-played miningames and activities (Shades) or for those in which a few hits taken off by each person helps all overall (ZMI).

However, they're terrible for others, namely Castle Wars and Fight Pits. At either one, more than 10 (on each team in CW) is uncomfortable and severely reduces [my] enjoyment of the event.

Clan Wars also has a bit of a crowding problem but sometimes it can be a good thing...

The theme worlds for these events are self-sustaining in that they attract the "regular" Castle Wars and Fight Pits players to them, meaning other "casual" players will usually arrive at the normal worlds, become discouraged that there's no one there, and move to the theme worlds, which will keep working itself over.

20+ (40 at CW) is far too many for an enjoyable experience. Castle Wars becomes a bit too hectic and Fight Pits becomes a competition of who can team up and backstab the most.

The problem may be that there are too few theme worlds which are spread out over the list. Perhaps if there were 5+ theme worlds in consecutive numerical order players would be more evenly distributed.

As for the elitism topic, I'm not sure if that's caused by theme worlds or not but it irks me all the same, and I think it really only affects Castle Wars. Castle Wars is the only minigame that truly has no real rewards that's fun to play in itself and yet people take it far too seriously. You may point out the recent update, but this has been going on far longer than that. The "pros" just get far too serious about it. I guess that happens everywhere though. RSPlayers are sore losers? "U only wun cuz u stack!" "L nub u think u gud pk fite me in bh!" "Lol noob owned" (Says the guy who just 10 vs 1 pile killed a player 30 levels higher...)

Also it irks me deep seeing all of them in their pretty Armadyl with Infinity Boots, Zamorakian Spears or Mage's Book+Master Wand combos purely for some wretched Magic Defense bonus purely to rush to the other side. At least I can usually Barrage right through their precious defenses.

I don't think there's a fix for arrogant stupidity other than death here.

Finally, miscellaneous problems with easy fixes list:

Catapults are hella overpowered. They seem to have a default hit of 240-something and can be fixed too quickly.

Noobs at Clan Wars can run out of the protective field, snipe, and run back in. 10 second timer please.

You can't use viewing orbs with familiars out in any of the aforementioned places.

Done. Have fun flaming, nooby CW pros.

I agree, themed worlds have problems. Instead of having a few small games going on multiple worlds, anyone who wants to play a minigame has to go to some world with hundreds of players and a bunch of high lvl clans lagging everything up and just hope to find a quiet corner to actually enjoy the game.

My biggest complaint is with Soul Wars. When it first came out, there were small groups of people playing on pretty much every world. For anyone who hasn't tried it, a 20 player game of Soul Wars game is lots of fun. Unfortunately, anybody who wants to play Soul Wars these days has to flock to one of the two themed worlds for it, both of which are dominated by immature pures and massive clans of high levels who can't be bothered to train the real way. In addition, the game is so full of players that nobody could possibly have any fun. For these reasons, players who are looking to enjoy the game are driven away.

I occasionally play Castle Wars, and the themed worlds appear to have the same problem, although it isn't quite as bad because pures aren't interested in a minigame that doesn't give easy exp. It is possible to find a good world for Cwars, you just need to do a bit of hopping.

The solution? Join a clan. If you can find a group of 10 people to join you in the Fight Pits, even for just a couple matches, you may find you no longer feel the need to visit one of the laggy, over-populated themed worlds. Perhaps you will even be able to set up more events, and permanently ease your pain. If that doesn't work, I reccommend opium.

Yeah, definitely join some clans. I know CW clans hold their own events quite frequently. I know what you mean about overcrowding. SW, CW, and FP are just kill-fests on their respective themed worlds. It's all luck and no skill, really.

Also, I hate sore losers, too. FoG is the best place to find them, I think. I get flamed pretty frequently for standing in the middle of the arena and using a steel titan.

To put it bluntly, [bleep] off.

Also themed worlds suck because I have high PING for almost all of them. Only one I don't lag on are stealing creation and trouble brewing, which are my favourite minigames, so no complaint there. But when I want to play a couple games of CW, the constant lag really puts me off.

I really liked it when the CW update came along and there were people playing on each world, but then that turned into level 80s playing other 80s in a fixed game where one gets the flag cape and another gets a kills cape <_<

Although for some minigames like Castle Wars, too many theme worlds can be a problem, take a look at others.

Go to W61 Great Orb Project and please tell me how many people are in the guild.

I totally agree with this. I used to love Castle Wars, when there would be the worlds where a majority of players would go but it wasn't overflowing with every jackass on that particular world. Also, it gets unbelievably laggy. Why can Jagex not go back to how it was? When players would choose the worlds that they wanted to play on, and they would still gather on certain worlds for certain activities, but those activities weren't basically limited to those worlds.

On a somewhat related note, BH is terrible for lag. There are FAR less worlds than there should be, having 1200+ people crammed into the wilderness, mostly Edgeville, definitely does NOT make for suitable PKing conditions. If it were up to me, i would scratch BH worlds and simply have the wilderness as a BH zone. People would still favour world 18, 65 etc... But it would give people the option to PK on lower ping worlds, and not be forced to face the treacherous experience of lagging out every 15 seconds while on 10lp.

Exactly! I haven't Pk'ed in years because of the damn lag. But I guess some people have better connection and don't mind it =/

It's to stop RWT. If there were open spaces in the wilderness, getting some ep and then killing a friend or paid accomplice would be much easier. I actually prefer not having a bunch of pures hanging around in the wilderness every time I want to visit, but I do agree that the current risking PvP just isn't that fun. The new worlds are missing the whole 'thrill of the chase' feeling, and everybody there is specifically looking to kill people, whereas the old wilderness had people running through it for all sorts of reasons.
