Sound has died

Hey, T&C, I have another problem...

The sound on my Laptop has randomly died. I am using Windows XP SP3. I tried to watch a video on YouTube, but it would not load any sound. However, if I turn my head phones up to full blast, I can still hear that static sound you get...

Any ideas to why it has done this?

Thanks.

No, I don't get the static sound with my speakers....

I don't get any sound when I play video or music with the head phones plugged in either.

Are they usb headphones?

Sometimes a usb port will go faulty or not provide enough power and you should either:

  1. Plug it into a different usb port
  2. Get a powered usb hub such as this Belkin model http://"http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=369775"

Something else which may help is, somewhere in your sound options you can check "playback devices"

Make sure the output device is set to your headphones

This is what came up off the top of my head, I'll try and check back later.

No, they are not USB Head Phones. They are the standard 3.5mm jack head phones.

I tired the method of Audio Play Back, it didn't work.

When I mute the sound, the static goes away, then when I unmute, it comes back...

Hmm, it's not plugged in the microphone jack is it?

Have you tried updating or reinstalling the drivers? Or if something was installed and messed up the sound you can check the sound devices in the device manager to make sure it's still listed there

I gotta go to the store so I can't think of much else, I'll check back later

How do I go about updating my drivers?

Go to Control Panel>Sound>Configure and there should be a box that tells you what makes the sound on your computer - find out the company then search "xxxx drivers".
