I have recently purchased the creative suite 5 edition of photoshop with intentions of using it for photography but there is a lot to look at when I first open it up.

 

now i was looking for a tutorial to describe the features, tricks, and tips and I don't mind putting some effort into learning (I hear it is pretty involved) but if you guys know of a good source please let me know via pm or a reply (free is best!!)

There's a CS5? I'm still running CS3. I usually go onto DeviantART for tutorials, but also search for CS4 Tutorials. If im right, chances are there's not too much of a difference with CS4/CS5, I had to use CS4 tutorials for CS3 myself since its not used much anymore (I think).

What in particular are you needing a little tuition on? I use CS5 frequently if you need a little help.

my main uses will be editing photos I take from my travels, lighting backgrounds etc... i also would love to dabble in making art from scratch (like signatures) for myself and others

I'd suggest looking at the guides on the Adobe website, to start off.
