Elf Spice
Planking while Chopping Mahogany Table of Contents 1. Introduction2. Requirements3. Getting to the Hardwood Grove4. Recommended Gear/Inventory5. Experience/Profit Calculations6. Conclusion Introduction With the recent annoucement of a planned Labor Day 2x XP weekend, many supplies on the Grand Exchange have been exhausted, including mahogany planks. This guide will show you how you can effortlessly chop and plank mahogany logs simultaneously, earning woodcutting, magic, and construction experience in the most efficient manner (and possibly firemaking expierence.) This method works by utilizing the Lunar Magic spell Plank Make, which when cast while chopping Mahogany in the Hardwood grove, does not interrupt the chopping process. For anyone aware of superheating while mining concentrated gold in the Living Rock Caverns, this is a related training method. Requirements -Must have completed Dream Mentor-Must be on the Lunar Magics Spellbook-86 Magic to cast Plank Make-50 Woodcutting to chop mahogany trees-40 Construction to build furniture with mahogany planks Getting to the Hardwood Grove 1. Using a Tai Bwo Wannai Teleport Scroll - This is the fastest method of teleport. From here, just run northeast.2. The Second best method involves using Fairy Ring CKR and running north to the grove. For this method, I recommend you complete the entire Fairy's Tale series so you do not need a Lunar/Dramen staff to access the rings. Recommended Gear/Inventory Head/Top/Legs/Boots: Full Lumberjack > everything elseCape: Doesn't matter. Here I wear a spottier cape.Amulet: Strung Rabbit's foot > everything elseWeapon: Any staff that supplies unlimited earth runesShield: Does not matterGloves/ring: Flame Gloves and Ring of Fire if using an inferno adze. If not, these slots don't matter You must carry 5 items in your inventory at all times Coins: every cast will cost 1050 gp to make mahogany planks, not including rune costsAstral/nature runes: Required to cast plank madeHatchet/Adze: Needed to chop mahogany logs. Bring an adze if you want firemaking XP. If not, bring a rune/dragon hatchet.Trading sticks: 100 are required to enter the grove, and 10 are required to bank each plank/log Strategy First, make sure you have all the required items equipped and in your inventory. Make your way into the grove and chop the mahogany trees as normal. Select your magic tab and select Plank Make. When a mahogany log appears in your inventory, click on it. if this is the first time you have cast Plank Make, you will receive a confirmation screen. I recommend selecting the option to never display it again. When your inventory is full, exit the grove and run west to Rionasta. Right click on him to parcel your planks and other items. Repeat the process, picking up any tree seeds from fallen bird's nest that you desire. TIP: If you attempt to leave the grove without any mahogany logs, you will receive this annoying prompt: You may want to leave one log unplanked to avoid this. Not only will this save you time, but you can save the regular and any special mahogany logs you receive to get them turned into planks for free at the sawmill. You must also not cast plank make so fast that the second spell gets queued, or else it will interrupt woodcutting. Experience/Profit Calculations Each mahogany log cut gives 125 Woodcutting XP, or 128.125 with Full LumberjackBurning a log with adze/ring of fire/flame gloves gives 165.9 firemaking XPPlank make gives 90 Magic XP per plank.500 logs per hour can be cut at a relaxed pace. with the above wc/fm bonus gear, it is possible to get 64k wc xp, 27.6k fm xp, and 30k magic xp per hour.Choosing not to use an adze will yield 45k magic/xp hour.At current GE prices, plank makes costs 634gp/cast with an earth staff, while the plank costs 2486gp at mid price. There is a fixed cost of 1050gp to plank the mahogany log. Therefore, the total profit for each cast is 2486-1050-634=802gp per castUp to 400k gp/hr can be made if one chooses not to use an adze, or 267k if one does. (not counting trading stick prices)If one chooses to train with the planks instead, each plank gives 140 construction xp. One may earn up to 70k construction this way (not including time to make furniture) For the XP oriented: Up to 64k Woodcutting xp, 27.6k Firemaking xp, (0 without adze) 30k magic xp (45k without adze), and 46.7k construction xp (70k without adze) is possible in an hour, for a total cost of 840k. (635k with adze) For the profit oriented: Up to 64k woodcutting xp and 45k magic xp is possible in an hour with a dragon hatchet, for a total profit of 400k.Conclusion Planking while chopping mahogany is one of the most efficient ways on RS to train several skills at once while making a moderate profit! It especially enables the training of two skills that normally cost money (magic and construction) free or with profit!I hope you enjoyed my first guide

foursideking
Mmhmm, may want to include info on profit/XP per hour using d'hatchet, seeing as most people'll likely use that...
Elf Spice
Mmhmm, may want to include info on profit/XP per hour using d'hatchet, seeing as most people'll likely use that... It's in the "profit oriented" sentence. I'll clarify that though, thanks.
Wachtwoord
Intersting and informative guide. It's something totally new on these, which is quite rare and nice to see. Good job :) When everything's been said and done, more has been said than done. All skills 80+
Syd
Otherwise very decent guide but it misses one important piece of data when cutting mahoganies; the special mahogany logs. When cutting mahogany, you have about 2-3% chance to get special mahogany log. Two of these logs allow you to exhange full inventory of teak/mahogany logs into planks without no cost at sawmill. So let's say from every 100 mahogany you cut, about 26 you can change into planks for free. This makes huge impact in terms of how profitable it is. Mahogany planks are 2k each, while logs are under 500 gp. Surely worth mentioning I guess? :P Actually special logs make the most part of the money when cutting mahoganies. True, I suppose this would add 150-200k profit/h.
