GE functioning

Player A has a sell offer of 1,000 gp for the item in the GE and player B has an offer of 1,020 gp. I put in an offer to buy the item for 1,050 gp. Whose item gets sold and for how much?

I'd think that Player A's gets sold for 1025 gp

if the GE has MORE items that the requested items, the lowest prices first, and for the price they asked for..

 

However there can be a time-delay before selling/buying (apart from the limits).

Player A sells his item and receives 1000gp. You receive the item and 50gp back.

Ok thanks. So the only way for player B to sell his item is to wait until player A has sold his? Assuming there are no other offers at all of course.

yes, or if A hits his "limit" (or if A just putted the items into the GE, and it's still on "start cooldown")

Start cooldown? That sounds like something that would prevent instant transactions, but I know those happen...

I know also that SOMETIMES they don't happen when trading the same item back and forth often in a row

For every GE transaction (Buy -> Sell), ONE person (the buyer or the seller) gets an instant transaction every time, one person has to wait.

 

If there is no buy offer currently in the GE for the item you are selling at your price, the next person to buy will get your item instantly.
