The Movies

ohmygodohmygodohmygod I finally get to talk about this game!

Anyways, The Movies is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. It's like a tycoon game, except where nobody cares about the tycoon part and just make some friggin' movies. It would take forever to describe all the features, so instead I'll just demand that you buy both the game and its Expansion, Stunts and Effects. Some links I want to share, as well.

Unfortunately, in late 2008 Lionhead stopped hosting the videos people made, but luckily someone else brought it back from the dead with a new site, and it's better than before, since it allows you to upload videos that have been edited in other programs besides just the game itself.

For mods, here's your stop.

Here's the resurrected home base.

A few I made (if you watch them, go in descending order).

Those vids should also provide a better understanding of the importance of editing on another program. The first one was edited using only the game's editing tools, while 2 and 3 were edited elsewhere.

Where to look for more cool videos.

So does anyone else play? Have accounts on this site? If you've made anything, I'd love it see it!

I'm gonna go ahead and ask the most important question right in the first reply.

Can you make pornos?

DAMN YOU NAPALM.

DIZZLE DOES NOT NEED TO BE TREATED LIKE THIS.

Dizzle, here a question with a question.

Will I get bored of this, and is it worth the money.

Alright, serious question now, is there a big fanbase? As in, are there lots of people that make movies?

Quite a few people still play, though the userbase no doubt took a hit when they stopped hosting our videos officially. A good number of new movies are uploaded daily.

As for halo, you'll get bored when you run out of ideas, kinda like gmod. There's plenty of mods, and I mean PLENTY of mods.

Should be pretty cheap, ALG. I got it for like $40 (including the expansion), and this was right after the expansion came out in 2006.

I remember my brother and I picked it up when it first came out. It was pretty fun for about the first month or two.

Fun for a while, then I got bored. I remember the fun part though.

It was... meh. I didn't enjoy it, it was very bulky and refused to work on my my main PC. The actual film-making process is long, boring and slow and you can only choose preset scenes. Played it for about a day before getting bored.

Did you have S&E? It adds freecam, which helps quite a bit, and with some good editing you can easily mix it up. Especially with mods. Anyways, of course the process is long, if you're planning on making a decent movie. You'll spend most of your time searching through scenes, in which case the filter helps, or if you know the name of the scene, just type it in. What I always do is have a team of scientists in Sandbox constantly researching, and set it to fastforward. Adds SO MANY COSTUMES SETS AND SCENES.

The fact that you have to choose from the scenes is annoying, but there's tons of them, and you learn to work around them.

I bought this when it came out, it is an absolutely amazing game.

I lent the disc to somebody and never got it back, and so couldn't play anymore when I got a new computer.

I played it for a couple of days hoping to expand my machinima, but ah, it really wasn't as great as I imagined. Of course though I haven't used any mods. It just seems that when you've already started doing "harder" machinima this game seems like a step back.

I can totally see its appeal as a game though.
