Nadril
So here is the deal. I'm running Windows 7 64bit on a laptop. I have both a wireless and wired NIC on my machine. My router is a NETGEAR G54. The issue is that my wireless connection will always work. Every now and then I will get some lag (more onto that in a moment) but the main problem is my wired NIC. What happens is that whenever I reset the connection somehow (restart router, PC, whatever) almost always my wired connection will not work. After a while it will let me switch over to a wired connection but it's always a huge hassle. In a bit more detail what happens is that it says I am connected to the network and it says that I have a connection but when I try to do anything it won't work. right now since nothing will work if I have an ethernet cable plugged in. The other issue I'm having is just some general lag issues which generally a restart on the router will fix. Do you guys think the router is just dying or is there a better way to check? Guy
I presume that you've done checking if the cable & ethernet ports on the router work? Try using a different socket/cable etc. It could be the drivers, see if there are more for your motherboard/card. Or it might be a hardware problem. Does the wired connection work with another computer? ^^The extent of my knowledge :) RIP TET "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." - Friedrich Nietzsche
Corvus
Assuming that that ipconfig readout is from when you had the ethernet cable plugged in: when you plug the ethernet cable into the router and computer, does the number light on the front of the router corresponding to the router port used turn on, and if it does what color is it and does it blink? (sadly your router doesn't seem to have standard ethernet indicator lights which would be far more helpful) If the light does turn on, try going to: Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections and into the properties for your ethernet adapter and make sure Internet Protocol version 4 is enabled, and then check the properties for it to make sure all the connection settings are on automatic. Edit: also your lag issues may be an overheating problem. I've had it happen to me 4 times before. Or it might be a hardware problem. Does the wired connection work with another computer? Done all this stuff. Tried several ports on the router. The cable does work as well. I've updated drivers recently which temporarily solved the issue but when I restarted the router today it started up again. And yes, wired connections work with other devices in the house (360, roomates PC) Assuming that that ipconfig readout is from when you had the ethernet cable plugged in: when you plug the ethernet cable into the router and computer, does the number light on the front of the router corresponding to the router port used turn on, and if it does what color is it and does it blink? Corvus
Okay, that ipconfig gives a very likely answer to your problem if you have Adobe CS3 or an old version of iTunes/Quicktime due to a bug with Apple's Bonjour program: Windows live blogAnother method to fix it is to download and install the latest version of iTunes/Quicktime which will occasionally fix the problem. If you do not have Apple's Bonjour program there is another temporary fix(it does talk specifically about Bonjour, but it should still solve the same issue): Microsoft KB Thanks to DrCue at DeviantArt for the signature source
