Michigander
Well I'm mainly looking for a laptop to run WindRiver's work bench and VxWorks. According to their site it seems any new laptop will do. So please suggest one for me. I have a budget of around 700 USD, I think I want an Intel i3 or better or equivalent AMD processor, 4 gigs o RAM, hard drive just needs to be 250 gigs, I don't have taht much stuff. I'd like to be able to use CDs/DVDs, don't necessarily need to burn them, long battery life is obviously nice too. Suggest away, here are some I've looked at. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+/+15.6%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+500GB+Hard+Drive+-+Brown/1257181.p?id=1218243230371&skuId=1257181 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i5+Processor+/+15.6%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+640GB+Hard+Drive+-+Dark+Navy/1257685.p?id=1218243754694&skuId=1257685&st=asus%20u52f&cp=1&lp=1 Ok, I went to best buy today, and am about to go to another location. I tried out both of the above laptops and both seem nice. From what I've googled the first has a 2.4ghz processor, and the second a 2.5ghz. Is there a difference between the i3 and i5 besides ghz? Right now I'm using a 2.4ghz processor, would I notice a big difference jumping to the 2.53ghz? I'll check back in a while when I get home again. Edit: Bought the second one, I liked the bigger battery and that the i5 can get up to 2.8ghz. Thanks for you help guys.
Hegelstad
Buy an Asus branded laptop, they have never failed me. Pretty good prices, great build quality and design, last very long without loss in performance. E: Get windows 7 Home Premium OEM it should be included with the laptop as well. Pinkbullet3
+1 on the Asus. Affordable quality. Had mine since April 2010 and it works quite well (though half a year isn't that much) ^ Blog.
Michigander
I was looking at the ASUS laptops and they seem good, can you recommend a model? Their website isn't the most helpful.
Sbrideau
I have a 2.5 years old Asus laptop, and it still works like a new one and sometimes still suprises me how some parts are high quality parts even after that long. Even the battery is a high quality one, still lasts 3 hours to this day. Go for Asus and you won't regret it. You have to know that they both have Intel Accelerated graphics, so you won't be able to play games on the high settings.
Michigander
By games you mean "real games" and not rs/flash games right? I don't own/intend on owning any serious computer games so that's fine. Does the ASUS in the first best buy link look good to anyone? A few stores around me have them in stock so I'll go check them out sometime.
Sbrideau
The Best Buy one has lower resolution than what we see for that size of screens nowadays, but it's still a good resolution. I'm going to have to say that the tigerdirect one is far superior and still has a very decent price, much lower than what I paid for my Core 2 Duo laptop 2.5 years ago. And yes, I meant installed games, not browser games.
Michigander
Can you point out the better points of the tiger direct one? The only difference I can see is the HD size, but that doesn't matter theyre both big enough. And screen size, the tiger direct is 17" which now that I think about it is almost too big, and the best buy is 15"
