blade995
Recently playing any game I am getting FPS (frames per second) about 95 to 12 every minute for atleast 15 seconds at a time. Looks like a slide show at times :( I have looked over all my hardware settings to see if something was changed, it was not. I updated my graphics card drivers to the new catalyst 5.12. Scanned with spyware scanners, Mcaffee ect, found nothing. Note: I had the slow FPS before and after I updated to catalyst 5.12 Any ideas what could be causing this? :? specs: windows xp home AMD athlon 64 3700 1gb ram ATI radeon x850 pro

blade995
I am currently playing: Call of duty2 Quake4 Battlefield2 F.E.A.R Doom3 (with the classic doom1 mod) It happens on all games. My settings are low for all multiplayer and high for singleplayer. I have tried even swiching singleplayer to low and still happens. edit I have found what might be the problem. It seems my mcafee is taking up some huge cpu usage. Around 90-100%. It does it only sometimes off and on. My mcafee never acted like this before :? . If this is something that mcafee does now, I'm swiching to Nortan.
blade995
I have come to my conclusion that it's defently my mcafee doing it. I uninstalled and was getting over 100 FPS without it. I have tried reinstalling both the firewall and virus scan. Did not fix a thing. Any ideas how to fix it before I go shell out money for a Nortan subscription? Stuart_G
I didnt think it was possible, but a triple post WITH caps lock on and information that is wrong and irrelevant. Dont post unless you have half an idea of what your on about. If you dont want to go and fork out your hard earned cash for norton, i recomend that you look into AVG Free Ive used it for ages and its been very good, they update often, its using about 10mb of system memory and uses next to nothing from your cpu. Try it out if your after decent free virus protection.
blade995
Wow thanks for the 3 post spam. Ever heard of the edit button? I hate reading posts in all caps. 1. DO U KNOW PRIVACY SERVICE IF U DO DISABLE IT What the **** is that? Please explain. READING UR LAST POST NORTON ANTI AND INTERNET SECURITY REALLY STINKS I USED TO HAVE IT GOT 1 VIRUS AND 2 TROJANS! Getting a virus because you have virus scan doesn't mean anything about it. If you download something and install it, it's your fault. ALSO UR CPU SPECS ARE PRETTY GOOD MY COMP USED TO LAG WHEN I GOT MCAFEE BUT THEN IN 1 DAY I FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM! My specs have nothing to do with it. Like I said before it didn't happen always. ------- For the past week I have uninstalled all mcaffee and using free software till I know how to fix it. Kinslayer777
Ok, so you've been recommended AVG free right? Its good, but its also a free (not complete) version of AVG Personally i'd like to recommend AVAST! personal which is very powerful, comaparable to AVG Free and Macfee but it also has a few shields which AVG doesnt. Basically, its just as good but with a lil'things i prefer. Not to mention the pirate skin is great! ;) Arrgh! *starts poking everyone with a plastic stick*
cmeski
Why does everyones posts seem to think that Mcafee is a bad company or something?. I have the exact same thing as you do with very similar computer specs and the McShield should take up like none of your CPU. For some reason it seems to be glitching or something because I can see in your CPU Usage History it is jumping around alot. Try shutting it down and restarting it and/or restarting your computer and make sure you have all of the latest updates for it. McAfee is a fine virus scanner tho, send an email to McAfee is all else fails, especially if you paid for for it as I did.

I have tried reinstalling, restarting computer, and restarting just the Mcaffee. Nothing worked. Since it's been having my CPU at 100% it's making my case run about 7 degrees hotter too. Thats not a real problem because of the case I have has awsome cooling.
cmeski
Was bored so I searched around google alittle, doesn't look like your the only one with your problem. One thing I saw that came up alot was 'MSKSrvr[Caution: ExecutableFile]' ,which is part of the McAfee SpamKiller and will show up in your Windows Task Manager. Might not even apply to you because I don't know if you have it installed, but if you do try shutting only that down and see if that makes a difference in your CPU performance.
