Tip to prevent getting hacked

Hello all, I just have one or two things that I do after nearly being hacked the month.

After each time I log in talk to a banker about your pin settings, make sure it is set to 7 days and the status of your pin is "you have a bank pin"

I logged in once and was in a different place from where I logged out, so I ran to my bank and checked my pin settings... they had deleted my pin, fortunately there was the 7 day wait for the pin to go. I then went onto my friends ipad and changed my password, It consists of CAPITAL letters, numb3rs and lower case letters.

I just thought i would share that with you all so you all know about this pin function.

Captain obvious to the rescue!

A better tip is get decent AV program and don;t visit dodgey sites; this eliminates keyloggers and thus 99.9% methods of becoming hacked.

Also last I check rs passwords are not case sensitive so capitals vs lower case is a waste.

And purposefully checking pin settings is a waste as you get told if there is a reset request after you enter it correctly; it comes up saying you request to rest your pin do you wish to abort this (or w/e)

This is what you have experienced can not be called hacking for everybody's interest.

What you have been is either scammed, a victim of phishing, account sharer, cracked or keylogged. The term "hacked" is used when someone remotely hack their way through either yours or jagex's system without you (or the computer user) knowing about the intrusion and retrieving sensitive data which may be passwords or similar. If you deploy (by downloading and running software or open infested files) a piece of software such as a virus or keylogger, you are not being hacked.

Actually if you look up what hacking is the term covers the following methods:

Vulnerability scanner

Password cracking

Packet sniffer

Spoofing attack

Rootkit

Social engineering

Trojan horses

Viruses

Worms

Key loggers

Spoofing Attacks are used to hack rs accounts, such as the recent email scam. As they spoof the webpage to try and get to input ur password.

Social engineering is used to hack rs accounts, again fake emails; but also "I'm a jmod" scam and the older "jagex blocks your password in chat try it"

Key loggers are big one in rs hacking.

I'm pretty sure theres probably some people out there who try to do password cracking, though not heard of any cases.

And some probably try to use vulnerability scanners, packet sniffers and rootkits; though jagex is well secured so no issues there.

Only added this for a quick bit of advice on my part, it was a personal experience so I thought I would share. Also, if I where to put in the title "ways to prevent someone remotely hack their way through either yours or jagex's system without you (or the computer user) knowing about the intrusion and retrieving sensitive data which may be passwords or similar" it wouldn't really relate to the average runescape user so it would not attract any attention. The term "hacked" is used by most runescape players to say that someone has managed to get onto their account and gain access to their bank.

I believe that the simple act of checking your bank pin is a good way to trim down your chances of loosing you bank. (Notice I say trim down, not remove)

Also, its just a small bit of advice for anyone wanting to check. There is no harm in it.

As I said checking it is a waste of time because if a cancel request has been made you get alerted to it and offer to abort it as soon as you enter your pin correctly to access your bank.

And lets face it in normal rs playing your either out camping a spot, and thus would notice you've been moved or you're gonna bank at some point.

Which means without purposefully going out of your way to check it you will known if it has been reset.
